Topic: Donkey Kong 64 cartridge issues?

So I got a used copy of Donkey Kong 64. The game is perfectly functional, but it freezes more than any other N64 game I've ever had. It usually happens within ten minutes of turning the power on. Two things of note are that I'm using an old N64 that got played a lot, and I am using a third-party Expansion Pak with a red top that covers the entire slot. This expansion pak works absolutely fine with Majora's Mask. Does/did any one else have freezing problems similar or identical to this? Do you think it was caused by my console and/or expansion pak? Do I just have a faulty copy of the game?

Try a first party expansion pak.

Also, another thing to note is that the Expansion Pak works absolutely fine with Majora's Mask. I'll add this to my original post.

I too had the red top expansion pack. DK64 worked absolutely fine. I had a Pokemon Stadium N64 so it was really old. Still worked fine. Did ya blow the cartridge? If that didn't work then I don't know.

@MetalK9 Yeah I blew the cartridge a lot.

The game still works, it just freezes more than I find normal.

I would try another Pak and see if that changes anything

I always give my games a good cleaning. Open up cartridge, take out board, clean the pins, and a dirty in cartridge. Even most of my NES games work great after doing this.

Do I need to buy a special cleaning kit for this, or would cotton swabs work fine?

Also @Oragami if you use alcohol make sure it is 90% or higher and if use use an eraser have a brush or something handy to get all the bits of rubber out from pins.
