I don't have access to the game any longer, but loved it back when I had an N64. The tracks were great, with just enough secrets and shortcuts. The cars handled well and generally felt really good (but without losing the arcade feel). But does the game still hold up today?
I have this game. This is the N64 Need for Speed. Great track design, cool shortcuts and good controls. It was very good back then, but now the giant black borders (even left and right of the screen - at least in the PAL version) distracted me a little.
Ok, fine, I'll say it then. Greatest Racing Game of All Time. Yes, it just had 6 tracks, but they are the 6 greatest tracks ever made. The shortcuts made the game seem like it had 100 tracks in it. Taking the shortcuts took some skills, but they were very rewarding. Some were so well hidden I was still finding new shortcuts a year and a half later. I still have that game, but I would love for the game to come out on the VC someday. It's so awesome.
Was this the same as HSV adventure racing? I think in Australia they may have just changed the name of the game to a more popular brand. I bought it recently, because me and my brother used to always hire it out as kids and play it always. Only positive memories about this game!
Just gotta say that this is still one of my favorite racers of all-time. I remember going out and buying it right away....and that was right after I just rented it. Definitely loved all the cool shortcuts and all the crazy maps that they had. I might have to go get my 64 and BAR game from storage.
