Topic: Does anyone else feel like this gaming generation isn't as good?

ive always felt that the gamecube was unfairly bashed. it was bashed for 2 things, being a purple box and being geared towards kids. the first one is plain ridiculous too. but anyway, i always wondered why people bash things for being geared towards kids. do you yell at your baby sister for shaking a rattle? no, you just let them do theyre own thing while you do yours.

ON TOPIC: although i hate random nintendo bashers, i admit that there is fault with the Wii. i wont dive into this because its been talked about a thousand times before. but i think that the wii is a step forward, but its not perfect. the Playstation 3 is actually almost just an update to the PS2, its supported by blu ray and other stuff, but i really dont care about that stuff, i buy game systems for games. the xbox 360 is pretty good. i definitely think that its going forward as much as nintendo is with the wii with the online. but its collection of titles is pretty bland. its pretty much bloody M rated shooter game or bloody M rated adventure game.

so thinking back, i actually gotta say that this generation is pretty good so far. the games are getting more intricate and i think thats good. while i dont like the gradual growth of M rated games, the 360 collection is good nonetheless.

More accurate reasons the Gamecube was bashed would be the crap third party support and total lack of online offering. Oh, and the choice of media for the games.

I don`t have much a problem with the consoles of this generation. I think they are all good(except xbox 360, it has some problems.) What I do have a problem with are the fanboys. Especially the little kids who have a 360, sits in their room with pizza and coke and bashes Nintendo(or sony) for being bad consoles when he/she hasn`t even played them. Bottom line, some gamers today are not as opened minded to other games or console, it`s all about shooting games and such. Sad.

Agreed. Kids today playing those countless shooters and Sandbox games....ugh. To them, these games make them feel like men, problem is, is that they aren't and it's really just a big huge immaturity issue. and ya you're right, they bash the wii and most likely havent played any of the games besides having a 5 minute match of wii sports tennis. It's a big giant fan boy fiesta and it's totaly annoying, they also dont understand the history of nintendo and they werent around those days to fully apperciate how brilliant and how amazing they were. Nintendo freakin owned the world man ;p
From cereal, to cartoons, The Wizard, toys, ect. I'm glad I was a kid of the 80's since to me that was the ultimate time to be a gamer, and early 90's as well. After the Snes when the PSOne hit...it just wasn't the same. But the Wii is bringing back that Nes magic if you ask me and again the Wii is the best thing in gaming since the Snes

Anyways, it's just best off to ignore the nintendo bashing, because you know it's not coming from an adult, yet instead from some kid sitting in their room chowing down on a pizza and coke, with their xbox head gear on talking gangsta'(lol) trash to their homie(again lol) while sniping them down on their 30th Shooter game. if you call that gaming, i'm going to leave gaming forever..de-freakin-pressing.

I myself did not grow up with Nintendo in the 80s. I did however play the Nintendo 64 when I was a wee lad, and got myself a gamecube(loved that thing) and played it. Once Microsoft entered the competition, me and my bro got an xbox(1st and best one) and kinda shoved nintendo out of the way. I eventually fell into the chains of the Xbox 360 and it was good at first, but it turned out to be a leech. Waisting money fixing it and buying shooters that were practically the same. I then said "That`s it. This console is junk with icing on it." So I rid myself of it and thought about either Wii or ps3. Obviously I went for Wii. Why? (IMPORTANT PART) Because I was sick of the shooters, violence, and immature and vile online community. I got Wii and I love it. I have games ranging from action/adventure(Zelda), platformer(mario) fighting(SSBB), racing(Mario kart wii), and shooter(metroid trilogy). To this day I can`t believe I missed out on GREAT games like Twilight princess, metroid prime, and countless Virtual Console classics. IN CONCLUSION, the Wii is for the casual gamer, like me.

This thread has become absurd. People whining about Nintendo bashing turning around doing the same of other systems in the same idiotic fashion they accuse the haters of. I detect a massive amount of insecurity in at least a few posters here.

Agreed.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

So you criticize certain individuals for making fun of something based on unfounded assumptions by making a gross generalization based on little to no evidence? Talk about hippocracy.:rolls-eyes:.

And while I agree that fanboys are annoying, they're nothing new. Every generation had fanboys - I still remember the arguments my classmates would get into over whether the PS2 was better than the Gamecube, or if the Xbox was the best out of the three, and before that whether the PSOne was better than the N64, or if the N64 was the greatest console of all time. And to this day, people still argue over which 16-bit console was the best of it's time(or of all time!).Genesis

The point is, there always have been and always will be fanboys. However, if you don't like those fanboys, the best thing to do is ignore them. Stooping down to their level doesn't do anybody any good.

I agree. I should stop being so cynical. Ignoring them really is the only solution.

I never understood the criticism about the minidisc. Who cares? They can hold more information than CDs anyway. I thought it was pretty cool. It's something that hadn't been done before.

Less than a DVD, though. Plus they're more prone to fail from scratching. Not an issue if you take care of them, but buying them used can be a problem.

Wow, it's being bashed for those reasons? I for one, do not mind that it is shaped like a cube, nor do I mind that it is being geared towards kids. Also @TheFox, you're complaining about the size of the disc? Preposterous!
The GameCube was the second console I owned (after the PlayStation), and it was quite interesting that the discs were about half the size of your regular average CD. I actually liked it, and it was very unique.

@StarBoy
too true. That's exactly how I felt. I thought it was really cool that the disc was so small, and I don't think size was ever an issue. I think there were less that 10 titles that ever needed to use more than one disc, and it also made loading times faster because of the compression

It was a problem: It limited the amount of content developers could put in a game. Yeah, the Gamecube didn't have a lot of multi-disk games, but you'll see a lot of them on other consoles, particularly the PS2. Imagine if they tried to put those games on the Gamecube. Plus, the compression affected the quality of the in-game music, as well as other aspects of the game that I can't remember off-hand.

Anyways, being different isn't always a good thing, especially if quality has to suffer for one's "creativity". And in this case, it cost Nintendo big-time.

I thought the music was good.
And, I do still have some fondness for the console. The GameCube is different in some regards, but does it have to mean it's a bad thing? I don't think has to be.
I respect others' opinions.

I like this generation better than last. Now that I think about it, probably the only reason last generation can even be compared to this gen(for me) is because of how awesome Smash bros. Melee was.

If it wern't for the Wii, I might've been entirely a last-gen & retro gamer. The X360 & PS3 arn't really appealing to me right now for multiple reasons.
