You know, That somewhat cheesy yet awesome movie from 1989 starring fred Savage?
Maybe it's just nostalgia for my younger years but I still love watching it.
I just came across it on Netflix and had to see it again.

I love the Wizard! It's so Bad!

My mom was watching that on Netflix a couple days ago. I walked in and saw her watching it and I was like..."are you serious...?"

I'd never even heard of it until I saw a ton of nostalgia references online on gaming web sites and youtube videos. Frankly, I fail to see how anyone can be nostalgic over this from the clips I have seen. Maybe I have to see the whole movie to appreciate it but I really can't bring myself to do that. I doubt this is the type of film I'd have enjoyed as a kid anyway - if it didn't have a Delorean or a Proton Pack in it, I wasn't interested.

Any movie with a game's beta version in it is instantly <3.

Edit: Beta, Alpha, near final build. Whatever you call it.

Anybody who was a Nintendo kid in the 80's probably loved this movie.
Mostly for all the references to popular games at the time. Plus it was the first time anyone had heard of Super Mario bros 3.
Nintendo used this movie to promote the games release. I think it hit theaters a couple weeks before Mario 3 went on sale.
Nobody really cared that Fred Savage was in it.

I was never a Nintendo kid in the 80's - I didn't start my gaming until the 90's but, even then, not many people really had Nintendo here in my experience. Does anyone in the UK remember this film? I'm curious if it was even released here as video games were discussed a lot at school and I'd have thought someone would have mentioned it.

Seen the movie in the early 90's didn't really leave any impression on me, can't recall much of what it was about at all really but pretty sure it wasn't as interesting as say The Godfather or even Rocky 4 for that matter, actually I liked the Mario movie more and that was awful.

AH the hour an half Nintendo commercial yep I remember that movie. I think the only reason that movie was made was because they delayed Mario 3 for NA and just to satisfy us they made that movie. If I want a Fred Savage movie I will watch Princess Bride. On a side note anyone know what ever happened to the other kids that were in that movie? They just kinda disappeared after that movie.

Yeah, I saw it when I was browsing Netflix. I'm gonna watch it eventually. Now if they add the Super Mario Bros movie.... and hopefully the rest of the Mario tv shows and stuff

Well, that kid that's hot for California ended up as a popular internet star with a series of humerous video game reviews where he gets really angry at video games. Well, according to the Nostalgia Critic, anyways.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

I know I've mentioned this before when the film came up, but Fred Savage wasn't the only recognizable person in the film. His female friend and traveling companion in the film, Jenny Lewis, went on to become the singer / songwriter for Rilo Kiley, a fun little band, and also has a few worthwhile solo projects.

In a way the power glove was kinda like using motion controls. After all you could steer left and right by tilting your wrist on racing games.

I remember my mum took me to the mall and I bought SMB2 right before we went to the theatre to watch this. When they showed SMB3, I was all mad that I'd just spent all my money on SMB2 and wouldn't be able to enjoy it as much (although, ironically I didn't actually end up enjoying SMB3 as much as SMB2). The movie always reminds me of something between a commercial and a poor attempt at a Rain Man rip off.

Surprised there's more than a handful of users that watched this movie. I'll always love this movie, and will quote it until the day I die.

Eh, I'm pretty sure that was the point...It's not "kinda like using motion controls", it IS using motion controls, although, it didn't work very well.
