Topic: Did you buy into the Nintendo VS Sega game?

Do you remember those glorious days? The days in which Nintendo and Sega where in their competitive and yet most creative era? I remember being so thoroughly anti-Sega, that i swore never ever to buy a Sega system. EVER. That plight got broken when the Dreamcast caught my attention, and finally convinced me of it's absolute greatness. It was really a childish thing i guess, and a lot of people, even adults and magazines bought into it. It was funny and sometimes even serious, but when i look back, i seem to have missed really Sega's great era. Glad i broke out of the utter hypocrisy

What's your story?

With kind regards,

Same as yours except I was a Sega kid and my parents could only afford to buy me one system. As a result Mario was old news. Sonic was where it was at. But once I did get a SNES it was when everybody in my neighborhood was getting rid of their old systems to get the PS1. While I did enjoy the few games I did get when I got my SNES from a neighbor, my attention was solely on the PS. Only recently have a rediscovered many gems I missed during the 16-bit era on both systems. It's one of those things that once you become an adult you wish you would have kept some of the things you had from your childhood.

Sort of - I was all about Sega but I loved games on the SNES too. Mario World, Mario Kart, F-Zero etc all impressed me and I was gutted I couldn't play them other than at friend's houses. The Megadrive won it for me simply because there were more games on that machine I liked (plus it was a bit cheaper) so I just dreamt for the day when SNES and Megadrive games would be available on the same console. If the me of the past only knew the Wii would be here one day...

I was very anti Sega back in the NES & SNES era that if I heard about any friends even thinking of getting a Sega they got an earful from me. But I didn't limit that to just Sega, I did the same thing to the TG16 & when it 1st t the Playstation was released as well.

What finally broke me was when a friend was spending the night over & brought his PS. I was cussing him out like a child of a sailor & a trucker, telling him I did not even want that thing in my house. Then he turned it on. The game he had in the system was Soul Blade, the prequel to Soul Calibur.

Let's just say next paycheck I had a Playstation & a copy of Final Fantasy 7. I still wasn't too high on Sega, until I saw that Resident Evil Code Veronica was gonna be a Dreamcast exclusive. Since I was a huge RE fan I bought a Dreamcast, & ended up playing my 1st Sonic game in Sonic Adventure.

Now I laugh at all the idiots that say that Xbox, PS3, Wii, ect is best & all others are garbage. Although, I personally don't care for the 360, for several reason, but that's another story.

I can honestly say I did not have a side. I never knew games existed until 2001 when I got an original gameboy, and it has progressed at lightning speed since then. So when I finally broke my way into playing games, the Dreamcast was out, and the PS2 was the hot thing. In 04 I got my gamecube, and didn't touch a PS2 since 2005. The first sega console I owned was a genesis in 2006. I was cleaning my (now ex) girlfriends house and I found that and an NES in a toolshed covered in grime and ..well more grime. Honestly, if I was living in the time of the console wars (Sega Vs. Nintendo) I have to say I would have been a sega fan. I actually always liked the SNES better, but at that time, I was easily swayed by lots of colors and fast moving things. I like Mario Better, but Sonic seems more appealing if I know nothing about either game and just watched commercials.

I was with Nintendo, but it was a combination of a kid budget on chores, and the fact even as a kid certain crap really pissed me off and lying was one, and especially lying on tv(etc) to sell stuff. Sega did this in spades when it came to the Genesis (liked them on the SMS, friend had one) with their Nintendon't lie smear and then trying to call the SNES underpowered, slow, not as good looking/sounding, showing Mario Kart as the system speed vs Sonic (while Road Runner Death Valley Rally was a faster title than Sonic.) I was like F-them up until around the Dreamcast launch which I got. I'd play a Genesis game in the Saturn era here or there, Gamegear too, but didn't own all their hardware up until 2000. Like many kids/teens then I got pissed if someone re-spouted the Sega bs, tried to lie about it's greatness and the rest talking up Sega talking point to where I'd just ignore people straight up or try and fix their flawed logic based on lies. Sony for the same reason got my hatred up until I got a PS2 in 2001 late. Sony abused Nintendo's stupidity with carts(pricing) and high license fees by using Sony media to lie to consumers and fanboy media tools on how Nintendo only served children and only kids and losers would have one creating a permanent generation of jagoffs who mocked Nintendo fans as out of touch kids and manchildren. I assumed it for years watching where stuff came from, but I used to work for MIDWAY in 2001 and 2002 where they confirmed it for me explaining how they did their smear campaign. Sad thing was until that effectively gimped the N64 in 1997-98 until basically Christmas 99/2000 they had more T and M games than Sony had and they were out first.

I forgave both when they started being more (it is competition after all) in their ploys and advertising, but I find when a certain line is crossed whoever you are or whatever company you are you're on my shit list and it stays that way for years. I didn't then and I hate it far more now console exclusive fanboy bs, probably more now since a lot of it is fantasy bs, not lies covered up by companies with disinformation campaigns as much.

I don't remember anyone hating Sega so much as ignoring it and wanting a Nintendo instead. When my parents took my Nintendo away for a month as a punishment, I secretly went to the store and bought a Sega without telling them. Whenever they took my Nintendo away after that, I just pulled out my Sega to play some Wonderboy and Psycho Fox, so it was no real punishment, heh, heh.

I didn't get my first console, a Sega Genesis, until I was 10, almost 11, in the same year the Playstation was released in the West (1995), so I pretty much skipped over all of that.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I got a SNES as a kid. So I was childishly anti-Sega. Moreso when the made the Game Gear ads implying GB owners drink from the toilet.
But in time, I could forgive them and admit the Genesis was also a good system. (you can't really remember the Genesis/GG ads offending Nintendo owners without remembering Nintendo's immature "Play It Loud" ads that pretty much offended everyone. )
I'm probably not the only one that enjoyed them as a kid, but thinks they're really tasteless now.
(going into a "let's make fun of Nintendo's mid-90s ads" tangent)
Possibly most memorable was the EarthBound "This game stinks!" magazine ads. EB fans will blame them for turning players away from the game when it was first released. Sure, Yoshi's Island was advertised with a barfing guy, but sticking "Super Mario World" in the title gave it enough name recognition to succeed despite a bad commercial.
I still remember Stunt Race FX' magazine ad. It went something like "Our game lets you pick from 24 tracks. The other guy's has just 3, so the only thing you get to pick is your nose."
I remember one TV ad with random picks of teens with generic metal music and occasional flashes of game footage (mostly Acclaim games, of all things). I still want Nintendo to explain how I can follow their advice and "give the world a wedgie".

Smash Bros Brawl gave me my Nintendo Vs Sega fix - playing as Mario Vs Sonic on the Green Hill Zone, or as Sonic in Super Mario World ... imagine if we could have seen that back in the early nineties! I still find it to be extrememly awesome to be honest.

Not really. I sort of did once the VC came out, but after a while, I got bored of it. I still say Genesis>Super Nintendo and Sega Saturn>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nintendo 64, but other than that, I'm pretty much over it.

I was always a Nintendo kid, and Sega was obviously inferior, but for me the big deal was PlayStation vs. Nintendo; that's when I got into the fanboy wars

Well as a Kid, I had both SNES and SG.
I wasn't really a FanBoy but, a Fan of Great Games.

I did't really get the Chance to play The SNES (mostly because My Big Bro sold it before I was able to Beat Zelda) But I did get to play Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Conury, Kirby All Star, and Yoshi Island.

But I played the Sega genesis much more at the time, and Genesis had alot of Great Games, like most Sonic games,(before sonic when 3D and started talking)

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

I choose neither side; I went with the Turbografx 16. We all know how that turned out.
It's really sad it went pretty much unnoticed, because there were some really good games on it, like Ys, Bonk, Air Zonk, Blazing Lazers, Castlevania X, Lords of Thunder, Military Madness, and a few other great gems.

I had a NES, my little sister got a Master System. I had a SNES, my sister got a Mega Drive. I read the Beano, my sister the Dandy.
I would read my sisters Dandy and play her Sega games but I always prefered the Beano and Nintendo.
