Topic: Cut Content in Metroid Prime 2?

I've been playing a lot of Metroid games lately, and one of my favorites is Prime 2. But as I've been looking at the game's design, there's something that stands out to me that feels like it's missing. Look at Sky Temple Grounds. If you notice, the area, much like its light world counterpart, is divided into three parts based on the area that is accessed nearby (or at least in the light world). There's a Dark Agon section, a Dark Torvus section, and an Ing Hive section, each accessed through one portal in Temple Grounds and each one containing a Sky Temple Key. I've divided Sky Temple Grounds as such:

Does the Dark Agon section look a little small to you? It does to me. And if you compare Temple Grounds with Sky Temple Grounds, you'll notice that an entire section of areas is inaccessible in the dark world. That section is the Splinter Hive, the underground, abandoned GF base that Samus explores at the beginning of the game:

Now this strikes me as suspicious, there are several areas in the light world that aren't accessed in the dark world, but never entire sections and most of what they cut is usually extra connecting paths that aren't really necessary. This looks like something that may have been intended for the game but they cut because they didn't have the time to make it.

There's other evidence that this could be the case. For one, in an early game cutscene (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmrW0keIwjQ&t=2m55s), Samus meets Dark Samus and follows her to the dark world in a room that's inaccessible in the game. While not unheard of I suppose, it is a little unusual that they showed us a room that can't be explored, so it's possible that it was supposed to be explored but they just used the assets for a cutscene. And then there's Accursed Lake, which is the room in the Dark Agon section closest to the Splinter Hive. If you look at where the door to the Splinter Hive section should be (you should be able to see it on your left in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhQ5pxoooAg&t=3m24s), you'll notice it's blocked by a collection of Ingclaws as opposed to just using Ingworms or a bare wall like usual.

So I have a theory that they originally intended for you to access the dark world version of Splinter Hive from Accursed Lake. They probably originally intended for the Sky Temple Key to be obtained in that area and maybe the usual goodies like expansions and scan data. But because of time constraints, they couldn't finish and they cut that section off at Accursed Lake and moved the Sky Temple Key there. Probably something like this:

It would definitely be interesting to investigate. I've never played it, so I wouldn't know.

I'm actually wondering if anyone has looked into this and hacked past those Ingclaws to see if anything's there or checked to see if any of those rooms exist in the game's code or anything.

Well, The Cutting Room Floor hasn't found anything. They might not have looked there though, I don't know.
