Ah, but I have a PSP as well. So does it fare better on a handheld perhaps...?
Actually, the PS2 version was never an option, as I have way too many PS2 games already.
Apparently the PSP version suffers from long load times and slowdown, plus I'd imagine it'd be pretty uncomfortable to play on the PSP. It is the cheapest to get ahold of, however.

That's true, but there are other portable Metal Slugs. It's the controls that has me worried. I personally find the PSP uncomfortable to use on a regular basis(seriously, who the hell designed that thing?!) - playing a frantic game like Metal Slug would probably kill my thumbs. I'm not sure if others have that problem, but I'm just pointing it out, just in case.
Technically Contra 4 is a compilation, since it also contains Contra 1 and 2. You could always get Contra Advance, if you really want Contra 3.
I might indeed get them both. Or I might just get Contra 4 and then Contra 3 on VC.

Contra and Metal Slug are awesome, don't get me wrong, but Gunstar Heroes is my favorite game from the genre. Metal Slug would be my least favorite of the three.

So, in my book, Gunstar Heroes wins. But Contra is a close second.
Neither. Gunstar Heroes wins. Just kidding, guys. Contra and Metal Slug are awesome, don't get me wrong, but Gunstar Heroes is my favorite game from the genre. Metal Slug would be my least favorite of the three.
Gunstar Heroes is good and all, but Contra is 5000 times better, really.

But I like both franchises, even though Contra had a sucky line of games after Contra 3. Not all of them was bad, the Contra on the Genesis is quite good, but the 2 games on the PSX are crap.

I played Contra 4 and it's pretty good. Too bad it didn't even come out in Europe. I have been thinking of downloading ReBirth.

Contra hasn't been called Probotector in Europe since the 16-bit days. (plus the Probot sprites are already in the game anyway, so there wouldn't be any need to redo sprites even if the franchise was still Probotector here)
