I supose all of you have wached The King of Kong (if not, do it) but have you seen Chasing Ghosts?
hereĀ“s what i think of the movie:

This movie has saddened me a lot!

I was excited by King of Kong's story of pursuit and rivalry, i've loved the movie, the editing and the charactes. Ive even gave a copy to my friends.
But thats something i wont do with this movie, because is so depressing it makes me want to quit playing games.
Theese guys are all sad and lonely, living in the past, yes. Some of them have made it right, like Walter Day and Twin Galaxies. But even so, sayng that he wants to pursue a musical carreer while he doesnt even know how play guitar well is DEpressing as hell. He could be a hapy man, haven created a legacy and a strong image of himself. But then he says it was not what he wanted, jesus!
The referee from twin galaxies is just sick. And then again, he says he want to quit his job. Theese people are not happy with their lifes.
Not to mention that their notority is restricted to a group of 20 to 30 people.
The only good thing on this movie is Billy Mitchel, he has accepted to become a character and he is good at it. He is also the guys who support most of theese poor bastards and he has concience of the importance of the History of gaming. As he said: is bigger than music, bigger than cinema.
I will never watch this movie again... ill stick with King of Kong and Steve Wiebe

I'd actually like to see it. Sometimes it's best to see the misfortune others have had to help oneself to pursue their dreams and better themselves. Remember, it's always best to try and fail than to live a life always thinking "what if?".

I am the one you despise. I am he who says what you really deep down know but are affraid to admit. I am the Anti-Fanboy, the crusader of truth in a world built on your lies.

I've only seen some of it, when they were airing it at like 2am on Shotime a number of months back. Todd Rogers' bit was great to see (though, yes, also depressing), since i'm a big fan of his accomplishments. Is there an extended bit on Mark Alpiger? I'm also a fan of his (and he looks and talks almost exactly like my brother-in-law, by sheer coincidence).

In some ways -- and Rowdy, you'll probably get this feeling when you see it -- some of the older gamers profiled remind me (slightly) of old, retired wrestlers and the autograph signing, high school gym shows path their lives end up in. It can be depressing, seeing these guys lost in their glory days (Roy Schildt often gives off this impression). But for every one of them, there's often a Billy Mitchell or Steve Sanders who are just normal well-adjusted guys, who just happened to be kings of a long ago time.

Is it on DVD in the US yet? Last i knew, they didn't have a distributor (which i found very bizarre).

Really? Another "Video Games Have Ruined My Life" movie that says the exact opposite of what we want games to be in society? Someone needs to get punched in the face, but I'm not sure if it's god or someone else...

I wouldn't call it a "video games ruined my life movie" at all, though not having seen the whole film i don't know if there was an overriding film-mission statment along those lines. It's basically a chronicle and profiling of some of the most well-known and accomplished classic gamers. It sadly does happen to be the case that many of these men do not have great lives (the sad image of Todd Rogers's living room/sleeping space sticks with me), but i don't think the film tries to say that it's the gaming that put them there. Plenty of people are unhappy in their lives and regret how they spent their past. In some ways, a lot of these guys on a personal level come across similar to old guys who are constantly reminiscing about their high school football days and are always living in the past because their present didn't turn out to be the sunshine and roses they expected back when they were in their glory.

If nothing else, anyone who watched King of Kong should probably see at least some of this film just to get a somewhat more complete picture of Billy Mitchell, who by all indications, while often smug and arrogant, is not as much of a douche as KoK made him out to be (something even Weibe readily admits).

Great movie, found it floating around on the torrent sites (why they haven't released it on DVD is beyond me). A little sad for a couple of the individuals they featured, but I enjoyed it,
