I meant to post something on this awhile ago, but kept forgetting. I got a new Mac Mini and so I was figuring it would be a good idea to move on from my Lik Sang Boom64 adapter and Playstation dual analogue pad and see if there was a way of playing classic games on my Mac using my now-favourite gamepad: the Classic Controller.
Whilst I have a review on Play-Asia for it I figured I'd repeat my thoughts here. It has two CC ports (the controllers plug in upside down for some reason) and a long 2m USB cable. It has special drivers for Windows, but on Mac (and apparently PS3, which the makers said they tested it on; presumably Linux as well) it appears like an ordinary HID device. I've only tested it with MAME OS X, but it works just fine - even connected to a 2m USB extension cable. The only issues I've noted is that only one port will work and the L/R buttons aren't recognised (I mainly use the CC Pro, so not a big deal to me).
Someday hopefully someone will make something that doesn't use custom drivers and is more fully cross-platform, but in the meantime I'm happy to be able to play games on my Mac with my beloved Classic Controllers.
I was just wondering if something like this existed the other day. I'm going to have to get one of these adapters for myself, especially given how ratty my PC game pads have gotten (one doesn't even work anymore). Thanks for the link, Sean, and great review...

Hmm, very cool, but the L/R buttons not being recognized seems problematic for me, as i'd probably also want to use the CC for MAME and what not, and the only way to really play Discs of Tron well without a spinner knob are to substitute the shoulder buttons.
I need a new PC gamepad in general i guess. I have the RetroUSB adapter for NES, but obviously that's limited in use because of the minimal buttons. When i do use a PC pad -- most of my PC gaming is old emu (MAME, etc) or DOS-based games, so keyboard works fine -- i have a wicked old MS Sidewinder Pro from probably around 2000 or 2001 (the one with a semi-boomerang style design).
Well, like I say, it's an issue only if you're not running Windows. If you have a Windows PC then there's drivers to download and I expect everything would work just fine.
Ahh, my mistake, i misunderstood. I thought it was a universal problem with the adapter. In that case i may go ahead and grab it then. Of course, with shipping and all, it may make more sense for me to snag a cheap PC-pad.
Yeah, I looked into remote solutions, but that means having to do the unpair/pair shuffle, and given I've got four Wiis and only five remotes I'm not really that keen to mess about with it. If another remote drops into my lap (or I end up passing on the debug unit to another member of the team), it's certainly a possibility!
