My actual list:

  • Sonic Adventure 2
  • Phantasy Star Online ver.2
  • Power Stone 2
  • Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (wow, lots of 2's here!)
  • Jet Grind Radio
  • Bangai-O
  • Skies of Arcadia
  • King of Fighters '99: Evolution
  • ChuChu Rocket!
  • Space Channel 5
  • Ikaruga (drooled over the DC version for ages, played it a lot in the arcade in the meantime, finally got the GCN version this year)
  • Street Fighter III: Third Strike (own it on the PS2 however)

I just realised they never released a Panzer Dragoon game on the DC. That makes me a sad panda. D:

I never played Shenmue. Shenmue 2 on the Xbox was awesome though.

I would say yes.

But why would you say yes? For instance, I hear it has a horrendous encounter rate. In fact it's infamous for it, and every time any other game has a similar encounter rate, reviewers always mention SoA's.

@vonseux I don't know if Skies really compares to Dragon Age or even Jade Empire. Skies of Arcadia doesn't have any voice acting, and the blocky polygons models are 10 years old now (they still have detailed hair and clothes).

SoA should be on anyone's list of great JRPGs though. It was made by a lot of the same people who made Phantasy Star and Sakura Wars. The characters are what really make SoA so entertaining -even the bosses have a personality. Plus you get to explore the overworld in an airship right from the start. When it comes to random battle encounters Skies of Arcadia isn't any worse than games like Final Fantasy 7, Phantasy Star 4, or Dragon Quest 8.

From what I read, that's how it is in the Dreamcast version. It's reduced in the GC version.
