It depends on what game it is. If they game sucked in the first place why would you want it again? But if it was a great game then I would get a remake. If I had a DS (Sold it) I would buy Heart Gold or Soul Silver, but if they decided to remake some crappy game that came out in 1994 then no.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

A remake doesn't have to keep the same flaws as the original. Thats the beauty of hindsight - they now know what didn't work or wasn't popular and can fix that. Whereas first time around, they didn't think it was a big deal or didn't realise it sucked or even took a gamble on a play mechanic that didn't turn out to do as well as they thought it would do.
I'm sure we've all played an average game and thought to ourselves while playing it, "it would be better if this part was different".
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I mean the entire game. The story, the gameplay, and graphics. What if they all suck? Then a remake wouldn't be the way to go. I would go for sequel if that was the case.

It works for me if done well, but that's not always the case. Hasbro did a slew of Atari games remade in 3D in the 90s on Playstation with very mixed results. Robotron X also lost a lot of what made the original gameplay great by moving to 3D introducing camera problems that didn't exist before.
Remakes of games that had potential but were marred by major flaws would be great, such as Kid Icarus... or most NES games.
Remakes of perfectly fine games is just a waste of time and money. We'd be better off with a sequel that stays close to the spirit of the original, like Mega Man 9.
Pokemon Fire Red- keeps the classic feel of the original game, but with modern gameplay Super Mario Advance- fine with me, saving is a plus Super Mario Advance 2- nothing noticeable Super Mario Advance 4- love the much-needed saving, but the e-Reader feature and larger inventory bin are annoying Space Quest I (Windows)- updated nicely to VGA King's Quest I (Windows)- updated nicely to VGA Mario Bros. (GBA)- they shouldn't have added the power jump from SMB2 Donkey Kong Country (GBA)- all it adds is a better save feature
for me it depends on a few things #1. They have to stick with the character and have him or her act as they use to back in the day. #2. it has to have the same kind of feeling like its past game or atleast have a close enough feeling #3. do not add a whole bunch of terrible voice acting like say if they gave Sonic a wiiware title but they changed his voice completely and didn't even do anything a sonic title would do like play party games the entire time... #4. if your going to add beautiful graphics don't make the game just 2 or 3 levels and then thats it game done. graphics are pretty yes but they don't make the game overall thats just the tip of the iceberg. & #5. Theres nothing wrong with new ideas but take in example if your doing an old franchise take some time to actually play the original game made by its developer and then try to make it better in your own unique way but still try to keep it like the developer did and so that Fans will not go like wait i don't remember that or have something way too easy or too difficult.

@Tails86 - I agree with you, it does depend on certain aspects.
Thanks its something i've believed since i've heard people talking about making remakes since honestly theres not been a huge huge amount of new stuff lately it kinda feels like the same thing in games all over again just updating a little by little.
