Ok so long story short while cleaning out a family members house that they are selling I came across some Atari games in a shoe box. One of them being a blue labeled Activision Kaboom cartridge. Now I don't know much about the value of Atari games but I thought I heard somewhere that blue labeled Activision cartridges were worth more then the standard ones. Not looking to sell it really just wanted to know more about these blue labeled cartridges.

me summons @the_shpydar cause a little birdie told me that he has a bunch of these type of cartridges.

@Tasuki
I do indeed have a bunch of them. All of them, in fact. And doubles of several of them when i recently pounced on a lot of them that was going unnoticed on eBay.

The blue label variants are slightly more rare, though it varies from game to game. The Atari Age rarity scale only rates them in the "Scarce/Scarce+" level, but the AA rarity scale isn't really an accurate "real-world" scale, as it ranks primarily based on the existence of the carts, not necessarily how likely you are to come across them these days. The prime example of this amongst the blue label variant carts is Skiing which, as @ogo79 will confirm, took me forever to find, and will almost never show up in the wild or on auction sites these days.

So basically, yes, the blue-labels are worth a bit more — but of course only to Atari or retro-game collectors. Kaboom is one of the more "common" of the blue-labels, but it will still usually fetch a few dollars more than the standard-label version. That's generally the rule for a lot of the blue-labels, though there are a few that can sometimes go for $5-$10 more than their standard versions (such as River Raid or Space Shuttle).

@the_shpydar: Ah ok thanks for the quick lesson. As I said I have no interest in selling them I have actually been thinking of starting an Atari collection so I guess I might as well start now. I have a few more places to go through the house and I am hoping to find the Atari somewhere otherwise I guess I will have to hit ebay up for the system.

i went to a local retro store just to see if they had one and all they had were multiple copies of the first press version. i got the wrong one for shpy and took it back to the store. then not long after that he ended up scoring the correct one

If only. The worst part about trying to find a copy is not even the fact that it's unidentifiable unless you play it, it's that apparently no one knows how many copies are actually out there. Could be 100, could be 1000.
