Hey, I looking into buying an arcade stick, mainly for my Wii, and I'm having difficulty choosing. There are two main contenders IMO but if someone has a better proposition please tell me .

First there is the Tatsunoko vs Capcom Fightstick, I heard alot of good about this stick, and main plusses are that it connects to Wiimote so that it gets recognised as the classic controller and Is also "wirelless" it also isn't that expensive if compared to other sticks. Also good compatibility and apparently it also can be switched from being recognized als the analogue stick to be recognised as the d-pad (or the other way around ) wich makes it compatible with Brawl. I also read that it can be switched from being 4-way to being 8-way.

The other contendor is the X-arcade dual Joystick, its a bit more expensive but I found a great secondhand one wich makes it affordable. Big plus is the fact that it has two sticks (hence 'dual'), but then again it seems a bit heavy in comparison with the TvC stick and well it seems abit cramped when youre playing with two players. Other minus is the fact that it connects to gamecube port(s) so that means it wont be compatible with some games that dont support the gamecube controller but only the classic controller (wich isn'n the case with the TvC stick) I know they arent that manny games of interest that have this problem so that isnt the biggest problem. Also the biggest plus is the fact that it can be used (when you buy adapters) for all current gen consoles and pc and there probably will be additions for newer consoles in the future. And since I might buy a ps3 in the future and will probably also want to use it for emulation on pc, because not all great games are VC ofcourse this is ofcourse a great feuture to have.

Any thoughts on this ? anybody that can help me decide and answer my questions ?

I probably made it abit too complicated up there so I'll give a short version here

  • Is the X-arcade 4-way or 8-way or both ?
  • Does the X-arcade work well with Brawl ?
  • Can you play the X-arcade with two players without excessive elbowing ?

I have the X-Arcade single stick, so I can't answer your last question. Also, I never played it with brawl, so I can't answer that question either . Having said that, it's both 4-way and 8-way. Also, it's awesome. I love the stiffness in both the stick and buttons. Very responsive. The stick is pretty big though (and I'm talking about the single stick one) so you kinda have to put it on a table, but it's the best stick I've bought and I believe it's well worth the money. I use it on fighters (Wii and VC) and other arcade games on the VC. Hopefully that helps.

P.S. I can't comment on the TvC fightstick, but I do know it's based off the SFIV stick, and that particular stick has got nothing but praise.

Thanks for your info =)

I just found a "pro-fighting-gamer" forum and they don't exactly love the X-arcade there, quite the opposite. Been looking through all the techie stuff now and found out quite alot of technicalities and brands etc. seems that the top sticks are not available for Wii so that's a bummer, seems like the TvC stick is accually the best one out there, and they say it isn't bad but that it just doesn't use premium parts etc. The cool thing is that you can apparrently mod the X-arcade quite easely with some good parts for not that much money (same goes for the TvC) and make it quite good.

So I guess I'm goin to buy an X-arcade and if I also encounter those issues those pros seem to be having, which i seriously doubt since every review from a normal gaming site and normal gamers is saying it is suberb so i'm guessing it is either snobbism or issues that only seem apparent when you're really really good, then I can still choose to mod it anyway.

I have the TvC stick, and I highly recommend it. It comes as 8-way (square gate), but you can open it up and rotate the gate from square to diamond, and then it works as 4-way, which is good for games like Tetris and Groovin' Blocks.

I don't know if it is to any interest of anyone, but I solved my "problems" and I think this sollution might be of some value to some others

Apparently there is a device that converts the classic controller to USB so it can be used on PC, the fact that it is USB makes it also compatible with the PS3 (there might be some issues with that to some but they can be fixed it seems). Nice touch is that since the TvC stick is actually recognised as a classic controller this also works perfectly for it. So now you get the stick with the best compatibility for Wii, that has the best button layout (for me at least), with great compatibility for PC an PS3. The only thing that is missing is compatibility for future consoles, but hey you can't have everything.

Hope this is helpfull to anyone the usb converter is from the brand Mayflash (you can order it at Playasia) and it's also cheaper than the x-arcade wii/gamecube converter (around 11 Euro without shipping)

I have the TvC stick, and it is awesome. I say go get it if you haven't bought a stick yet.
