I was once in love with the FPS genre and no one has contributed more to it than id software.

Yes, there was a time when FPS were interesting because they had their own identity, nowadays FPS are just 'war simulators'. Half-Life 2 and Bioshock are really good exceptions in that matter.

And yes, 3D gaming as we know it today wouldn't have existed without id Software. Even the original Resident Evil was planned to become a FPS for the PlayStation.

Always have and always will be a huge Doom and idSoftware fan. LOVE Doom. I have it on Xbox Live Arcade as well as the collection on PC. One of the best games of all time.

I never really played it on the PC back when it was out I didnt have a PC cause my parent would get me one. I do remember playing the SNES and N64 versions of it and I did enjoy them. I also remember all the Doom clones as well like Hexen and the most famous Duke Nukem.

Ah memories...
I was about 13 when doom came out. played it on my 386..had to shrink the screen down to the second smallest size and switch into "low res" mode. looking at that now its a wonder I even liked the game. Also everyone at school was obsessed with the snes and genesis at the time and nobody but me and few other geeks knew anything about PC gaming. So a couple months after doom's release the local news was running stories about this "new game that's corrupting our youth"...it was fun to tell people "ya i got that game".

Personally, I've disliked every release outside of the PC...especially the Nintendo 64 port. I don't know what it is about that game, the colors, the movement...i don't know what but I feel nauseous after about 3 min playing that one. I've never been bothered by a FPS before or since that n64 port. There are some console ports that have been very faithful to the original and aren't bad...but i'm in the camp that must have a keyboard while playing this game. zdoom's added mouse look support is also pretty fantastic.
