It would be interesting to know the history of the design. Maybe they made it boxy so it would be recognizable as a Nintendo System. I prefer the J-NTSC/PAL version by far. The cartridges also look a lot better.
I don't care for the North American redesign of the system. Did you know that Nintendo redesigned the US Super Nintendo console due to the Super Famicom's top being so flat. They were afraid US gamers would place their drinks on top of the console, thus inviting spills into it.
That redesigned one is my personal favorite! Really? That didn't discourage them from making the GCN and Wii flat-topped!
Must be nice because I hated mines............everybody use to tell me I had the "fake" Super NES
