The SimCity series, starting from 3000, has a wonderful array of jazz music. Didn't introduce me to the genre per se, but I really appreciate the quality of the songs. Streets of SimCity's radio stations were hilarious, catchy and really varied too. Man, Maxis had some great musicians.

I don't know if any of the games i'm going to list will be considered retro. But i hope you care as little about it as i do.
Well it's hard to say a game changed what music i listen to regularly.
I'm kinda happy with mostly listening to Hardrock and Metal. Also quite busy with that already.Aside of gaming of course. I wish days would be all 24-hours of sleep and work free time-ish

That said there are some games that come to mind with music i like very much. All of genres i even kind of hated before.

  • De Blob Jazz anyone?
  • Bit.Trip.Beat no explanation needed for that one i would say
  • the Donkey Rap just so out of place it's hilarious as hell

And especially:
- Art Style: light traxAmbient, Techno, House, Chiptunes, Minimalism ? I honestly don't have a clue. But why should i care with this simply amazing mix of noisy, catchy und upbeat music anyway. Looking back i could see myself downloading this little gem for the ace music alone.

Well, The Super Mario Galaxy series introduced me to orchestrated music. (In games, that is)

Beautiful music. Stares dreamily into space

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

@LTD Actually de Blob's soundtrack is mostly disco and funk IIRC. Very 70s. There's also reggae, bossa nova, salsa, big band and even a little chiptune in there too. Great, eclectic soundtrack and a good one if you're interested in new musical genres. I hope de Blob 2's is done by John Guscott as well.

The music of Nobuo Uematsu (video game composer of Final Fantasy series among others) particulary his solo adaptions of the FFVII music introduced me to piano solos. I'm working my way through Chopin now as a result of this. I also like DUstin O'Halloran's work.

Fantastic stuff.
