Topic: 4x4 foot sprite art (wood mosaic with interchangeable pieces)

Hi All,

I have been working for months on an art project of sorts that I'm thinking fellow old school NES fans will appreciate. In short, its a mosaic framework where you can layout 16x16 wood "pixels" anyway you like - which really lends itself well to recreating my favorite Nintendo characters in my living room. I'd love to get some feedback on it (positive or negative) if you have the time to check it out. http://8bitliving.com/

Thanks!
Steve

That Mega Man mosaic is fantastic. Keep up the awesome work.

This is awesome! How did you bracket them to the wall and still have them be able to be interchangeable?

EDIT: Nevermind i read through all your blog posts this is an amazing way to do things i may do this on an extreme level to an entire wall in my Office/ Game Room. I do a lot of what one would call extreme art projects in that they're usually big and take a lot of time and i think you've just peaked my creativity. Thanks a lot for the inspiration! ill keep you posted when i start on this if you'd like. Recreating an entire screen to a game would be fun!

Thanks oldgamesonly... I'll look at making Mark. Is there a particular image you had in mind? I actually never played Monster Party. I saw a bunch of images of a guy with a bat (http://www.sydlexia.com/imagesandstuff/monsterparty/MonsterParty199.png) Assuming this is Mark?

@8bitliving: Excellent work on these. I'd love to see a Samus Aran one sometime...

@8bitliving Purely awesome! I've been considering redecorating this summer, and wasn't sure how to incorporate the retro flair. I will definitely consider making a mosaic or two.

@8bitliving After reading more of your blog, I have a question: Could you post the links to the materials you used(where you bought them)?

@OldGames, @Mugan: Mark and Samus (and Kirby) are coming soon... I'm going out for the paint colors tomorrow.

@Shinesprite - I got most of my materials from http://www.woodcrafters.com, and http://custom-magnets.com. I may be able to save you some time and provide you with a setup like I have (with colors of your choice) pretty soon. I'm working hard on a "kit" for the general public http://8bitliving.com/i-want-one/

Thanks again for all the feedback!

@8bitliving Thanks for the links, however I couldn't find anything of use at http://www.woodcrafters.com. It'll be a month or so before I get serious about it, so i'll be looking out for your kit. You may want to offer it in multiple sizes (eg. 32" x 32" using 2" tiles and 2' x 2' using 1.5" tiles)

Some more designs to consider:
Balloon Fight, Bowser, Clu Clu Land, Devil World, Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Ice Climber, Kirby's Adventure, Mother, Pac-Man, Punch-Out, and Wreching Crew.

@Mugan I just finished a Samus mural

@Shinesprite Those are some great suggestions. Kirby will be coming soon.

I have a very special double-wide mosaic prepared for tomorrow.

@pogocop: Thanks for the feedback! I'm working hard on a kit for the public.

@Shinesprite: I just finished a Kirby mosaic. Turned out pretty good I think.
I also made a pretty sweet 8x4 ft (double wide) Duck Hunt mosaic. It's my current favorite.
