I find game maker much easier than Unity simply because of how friendly it is for game designers. Unity on the other hand requires programming a lot more than game maker and while I can do some amount of programming, I'm not very skilled in it and as a result, I can only do so little in programming.
Game Maker even though its not powerful like Unity is still accessible when you think about the 2D department.
You can already publish to Wii U using GameMaker: Studio's HTML5 export and the Nintendo Web Framework.
I only know this because I was in contact with a certified Wii U developer who messed around with GM:S. I'm afraid I can't really give any further proof than my word.
