Topic: You think Nintendo of America should be better?

NoA is a mix bag. Sometimes they do things right like Fire Emblem Awakening and sometimes, they screw things up like not focusing hard on the marketing like removing the smaller New 3DS in favor of XL.

Look, I know its hard to localize games to English and I love how NoA does that right with every game. But there are some issues I have with them such as.

  • Peach's voice. Bring back Lesile Swan. She acts like a real princess instead of Jen Taylor's voice which is more or less high pitched and not really like a princess.
  • What happens when Charles Martinet retires? Who's gonna be that new voice for the Mario crew cause I really am worried about this from NoA if they screw up the Mario cast if they sound bad like Peach's new voice and ruins most of the charm of the Mario series although Bowser's new voice is rad though ( Love you Kenny James! )
  • Why can't they change character designs and release them here like how they did back in the 80's where Doki Doki Panic was changed to Super Mario Bros 2 here?

These are some nitpicks that I have with NoA in general. Mind you, not Nintendo as a whole as I love Nintendo (And they are the reason why I ended up becoming a game designer!) But I feel like Nintendo of America needs to sharpen their stuff a bit more if you catch my drift.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

I've seen some say DDP fits too well as a Mario game, and wonder if the Mario version is what they intended all along.
Given that DDP was released as an ad-game for Fuji TV and it is very rare for Nintendo to use licensed IP in games. (the only game I'm sure of that is a Nintendo original is Popeye and Popeye's English for the Famicom. There was a Peanuts game for the SFC and a Domo-kun game for GBA (that was split into DSiWare for the west), but I don't know if Nintendo was the creator or just the publisher.)

People in the West complain about Ninty being too Mario centric so if they started changing games like Splatoon and Fire Emblem into Mario games there would only be complaints.

You didn't get my point. I was simply trying to ask like if for some reason NoA simply can't release an exclusive Japan only game in the west, why not just change the characters from the Japanese version and make it into more acceptable IP like Zelda, Mario etc instead of not having interest releasing that game to the west?

Because people have the internet now, and changing characters or settings for no good reason is something most fans really dislike.

On a related note, if you don't think a certain game will sell well in your market, then wasting tons on money to completely redesign it is not exactly profitable, you could just use that money for games that you know will sell.

Peach is played by Samantha Kelly. Are you talking about Rosalina because if so, I definitely agree.

Rosalina kinda sounds like your friend's other friend, who tries to pretend she's having fun even though she's actually kinda uncomfortable.

Fox's voice......if I didn't like the character so much I wouldn't bother playing as him.

I think Charles Martinet's Mario voice should go back to how it was in 1996 (slightly deeper). Just compare Mario's Super Mario 64 voice to the Mario's high pitch scream that he does in MK8's opening. MARIO KART EEEEEIGHT!!!!!!!

But then he would sound like Paarthurnax. (kidding)

It was a little shocking finding out he voiced a dragon in skyrim

Are you saying that you guys are fine with peach's voice? Because it just sounds terrible to listen at! I couldn't care less about Rosalina seeing that she's not as frequent as Peach.

I haven't really noticed any major changes in Peachs voice lately.

It's certainly better than the one from Mario 64.

I'm surprised character voices are high on your list when you don't consider something like Club Nintendo.

But I agree that Rosalina's Mario Kart 8 voice isn't all that good, and I just laugh at Fox's new voice in Smash, especially when it sounds like he's saying "Meow!" when he's launched into the air.

That's actually his original voice that he had in Starfox 64. Same voice actor.

Although I do agree that his actual "new" voice that they gave him for Brawl was better.

On the subject of voices, Peach's voice is fine IMO. Never bothered me.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

They should be better (They need another Howard Lincoln not just a marketing man like Reggie).

I do think they should start marketing to their audience better. Seems like as you mentioned, they're not changing enough of the overly Japanese content to appeal to the American market, and it's hurting their game/system sales in the process.

But compared to Nintendo of Europe, they're doing at least somewhat ok. At least you guys have an interesting company figurehead in Reggie.

I think they could have done better with the Splatoon commercials.

They're completely gameplay, which is awesome, but man that song is positively irritating.

They have three different versions of it, but I think it'd have been better had they made at least one of them more appealing to older audiences. They could have aired the current styled commercials on daytime CN, ABC Family, & Nickelodeon, while the version more suited to older audiences could have aired on Adult Swim & Comedy Central (and yes, they are airing the current commercials on Adult Swim).

Could make or release an optional add-on for the Gamecube to play Wii/WiiU games including NDS or 3ds Games. Or even release "Mother 3" for the N64 through an special promotional offer. Like maybe $300 dollars per cartridge ( in hard boxed ).

Bring back Mario from the "Super Mario Brothers 2: Mario Madness" days.
Red Toad, Princess, Koopa, and the troopas.

Make an Captian Louey based game.

Admit they were wrong about not releasing the Gamecube add-on.

Invest in HudsonSoft and release an new Bomberman N64 game.

I'm sorry. I was sold a SUPER Nintendo Entertainment System. It needs to play everything from N64 to WiiU. And all the Game Boys and the DSes in 2D, 3D, 4D, whatever. Also the Virtual Boy. And I don't really know what the Pocket Pikachu is very much but I know I need it supported as well. (and if there's anything even more obscure, that too!)

I never understood their marketing methods in the first place. Earlier, it was mind blowing during the NES times and even the Gamecube and DS ads were great. But this 3DS and Wii U era started this where their marketing is just plain stupid. But here's the thing. I don't think that the Marketing alone is the problem with the sales of a game as it could be something else like whether the game is worth it or not like in the case of Smash. We all knew it would be awesome even without the ads so why is it that they can't put extra efforts for making the game sell well like let's plays and what not?

Its NoA alone that just gives Nintendo the struggling point in general because of how they can't seem to do it right.

Nintendo's biggest problem is that they don't seem to take regional differences into account when choosing what games to release or making/localising them.

In the older days, Nintendo of America would look at some of the new games in Japan, figure out which ones are likely to be popular in the US and then make them a bit more suited to the market. And Japanese Nintendo would look at other regions and try and make their games suited to all of them, rather than just the Japanese market.

Now though, it seems the company doesn't seem to care what will actually sell and just makes whatever sells in their home region, with a few exceptions.
