Well after Sakurai recently announced that he may not be in charge of the next Smash, its most likely that Nintendo will be the ones to do it themselves and I don't see it a bad thing since the games they do by themselves are superior than the ones co developed by other devs for the most part.
I don't see how this can be a bad thing for Nintendo because clearly Kirby is doing fine without him and although we have never seen a Kirby game in 3D, Its most likely that HAL can do it just fine without the need of Sakurai. I mean the dude is exhausted like hell so I think that's why he feels its best for him to not make the next Smash because even with his hard efforts, critics and fans will still expect more and he's right on that part.
If this is already being discussed, move the thread to the one who posted this topic earlier.
Yes. I don't see the Super Smash Bros. series ending, as it's been a mainstay on Nintendo consoles since the N64. Unlike Sakurai, I don't envision the series floundering without him. I mean, as you said, look at Kirby.
Sakurai could very well direct the next game, though. It depends on whether he still feels like only he could do it.
Maybe it has something to do with people discussing his involvement in the next game considering the last one isn't even a month old.
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I'm not usually one to say "It sucks now that So&So left the company." or "new sucks, old's better" and it might not be with Smash Bros. But coincidentally, I prefer the older Kirby games over the new ones...
I often wonder this. Like a lot. I truly fear for the series if and when Sakurai finally steps down, whether health issues get to him first or he just runs the course and retires. I honestly have no clue how the series will evolve without him. Hopefully they will try new things that Sakurai maybe refused to give the green light in development (he can be stubborn sometimes) and....I can only hope they are good things.
I would hate to see hit-and-miss Smash games become a thing.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
Considering there was a 6 year gap between Brawl and #4 I really wouldn't worry about this. One man does not make or break a game.
My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."
I wonder will they even try. Sure Smash Brothers is a hit. But they could make a Mario game that would sale just as good and they wouldn't have to make animation for 50 plus characters. I'm not saying Mario games are under ambitious they are amazing but Nintendo is good at making them. And I'm not sure they could pull off Smash Bros without Sakurai. But keep in mind Sakurai said this same thing after Brawl. And Hideo Kojima is like I'm done with MGS after EVERY METAL GEAR SOLID GAME HE MAKES! Then he just keeps making them cuz that's Konami's cash cow. Although I think the MGS story line has totally jumped the shark. I mean Peace Walker was just so stupid! Sorry for my rambling. But if this is the last Smash Bros I'm fine. I think Nintendo is honorable for not rushing out a game just for a fast buck. If this is the end of Smash at least they went out with a bang! Shame we never got to play as Ridley though.
We should just let the project m people make the next smash. [/sarcasm]
Oh gawd no. I'm glad that was sarcasm, because that'd be the worst thing I've heard in a while. I like that every Smash Bros. is a little different and not just a obsessed attempt to remake Melee. Melee was the most competetive due to crisp controls, a small unbalanced roster, and a plethora of glitches, awesome...can we move on already?
I say hand it over to one of the younger faces at Nintendo. Splatoon is a great example of a lot of untapped talent there...heck maybe even better than Sakurai if given the chance. Don't get me wrong, he's a great dev, but I think Smash Bros. can go on just fine without him with the right talent. TBH I'm actually a little sick of him giving his own characters preferencial treatment in Smash. Darl Pit? Really? Bring back Skyworld, probably the worst stage in Brawl? THREE Kid Icarus reps even though there has only been TWO games....O....K.
He obviously loves Kid Icarus. Let him relax and make a few of those games....maybe this time he'll get the controls right: Hint Sakurai: go ask Treasure for advice...
