I don't see this going well.

It wasn't good enough to be a dominant handheld, and it's not going to be better than the best smartphones. And people pretty much already have one of each.

It's going to take dedicated Sony fans and some naive consumers to purchase a mediocre phone and average handheld device.

Well, as far as the phone hardware goes, no, it's probably not the best out there, but it's still pretty good. As for handheld gaming hardware goes, it's probably a lot more capable than the 3DS in terms of power.

Hardware wise the thing is pretty identical to the latest iPhone model, and that seems to be doing alright. The advantage this has over the iPhone is that you can play any type of game on it without the controls being a hindrance.

The disadvantage that it has is that it's not an Iphone.

The PSP was much stronger than the DS and we saw how that went. I just don't imagine things going better in the mobile phone industry, where competition is much more competitive.

If you need a phone and you like PSP games though, I guess this is a convenient way to go.

Doesn't this cost too much anyway with even lesser features then the iPhone?

The Sony fans will definately get this due to their ignorance but that's up to them to waste money.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not buying one. I love my iPhone. For the iPhone haters/droid lovers out there, at least this gives them a decent gaming competitor to the iPhone (this uses native code, not that Java rubbish) and proper(ish - those touch pad analog things are unusable) controls.

Who are the providers going to be though? I haven't seen mention of that anywhere...

From the article:
"Sony is backing the launch with its biggest-ever UK marketing campaign, and says all mobile operators and retailers are carrying the device."

Oh, I didn't see that. XD Thanks! If it's like that in America too I'll probably get one sometime. It's better than what I have now and Sprint doesn't have any smartphones (as far as I'm aware).

If I could get one cheap I'd consider it... so I won't be getting one.

You're not very aware. lol

They have just as many smartphones as everyone else.

The PSP is actually pretty popular in Europe (we have better taste than Americans).

It apparently doesn't play PSP games, though it does play PSOne classics.

I'm not. XD But I was mostly talking about the iPhone (And I just checked the site, I didn't see it on there. I could be blind too though ).

Oh, so the thing does even less than I thought it did..

And there are a ton of smart phones out there. The iPhone is just one of them.

Sprint has the Evo for instance, which is one of the better smart phones on the market.

It definitely does not play PSP games as the hardware is completely different and emulation is out of the question, it's not powerful enough to emulate a PSP.

If I were to upgrade to a smartphone, I wouldn't even look at this.
The iPhone is the better gaming smartphone, and the reason is simple, the games. There's alot, and developers already know what works, and how to get the best out of it.
Another reason I wouldn't get a Droid (Even though I love Google, and hate Apple)
