I just got an xbox and when I got it I had the people test it out. It took 4 tries to find a working one. I wanted to know if they break or wear out easily, also if it breaks or if the power is out how do you get the disc out?

For the first question, the original Xbox was actually very reliable (hard to believe, I know!) and don't really wear out easily. For
getting a disc out of a broken system, I'm not sure except for opening the system up. You could pry the disc tray open, but that might break the disc as well.

hmm...i have heard the opposite-that newer ones were more reliable-except for the arcade version which wasthe first to be improved but i could be wrong. anyway-the key to a happy xbox is installing and playing all games from the harddrive and not leaving it on for more than 4 hours. ive had mine for quite a while with no problems-i think you get a 3 year warranty standard now anyway.

In the fact that the machine is many years old, who knows...

I have a problem with the controls on my xbox. It's a Halo special edition. I'm playing Conker live and reloaded and the left thumb stick won't move Conker forward. When I push it forward he starts running around in circles, and the right thumb stick (Which is suposed to move the camera) won't move it left or right, only up and down. It almost feels like the controller is suposed to be like that but I know that that's not the way things should be controlled in that game.

Can anyone tell me wrong and what to do about it?

It might be like the Nintendo controllers. Try connecting the controller without touching the sticks, as the position they are in when connected is their center that is registered.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

SuperPeach

I already did that, they aren't stuck they just won't move right.

Do you have any way to open the controller shell yourself? If you think you can do it safely, you might want to take a peek and see if anything is off center. Analog sticks are annoying to repair if it's a serious problem, but it might be something minor.

Have you tried it on any other games? I doubt the problem is exclusive to the one title but you never know.

I've also tried it on Shenmue 2, same problem. I could probably open it, I have to check.

I have it open now. Wow, lot of cool stuff.

Now what?

Does the connection point for both sticks look right? Anything noticeably wrong? If there is, it can be a simple case of realignment. The far more likely case, though, is that you'll need to go deeper which can get difficult.

Here's what you're looking at for a repair on a analog stick:

I don't see anything wrong with them. I can't do soldering though.

I feel for you, as I had a number of PS2 controllers go out years back.

Unfortunately, repairing an analog stick takes a certain amount of skill that I never perfected.

Well, thanks for the help, a least now I know what's wrong.
