@NEStalgia The Xbox One X was designed like that so they could fit the most powerful console and the most advanced cooling system in something smaller than an Xbox One S and still have the solid "box" design that both PS4 and PS4 Pro lack inside. If you had a better design in mind you could have let them know.

The Xbox One X HDD is faster than the Xbox One HDD but because it's "only" 1 TB I don't really use it for games. All the issues I have ever had with my X are because of my ISP. :S

@BlueOcean Yeah, and I have to admit the whole "fastest, coolest console in the tiniest box" thing is kind of cool, but if I had my preference, I'd give up a little box volume for easy servicing the only wearable part other than the fan. Technically a little trap door below the HDD would have made a lot of sense, but I bet it's an FCC/CE EMI certification based reason they didn't. It could have been cost management, too, though.

Especially on the X, 1TB really doesn't cut it. I was amazed that all my PS4 games (many of which are filed "redundant" with the X since I re-bought them) only take about 2.8TB total.) Those X downloads are huge! I keep "important" apps on the internal. Things like the Dolby Headphone driver/app and Razer controller config app...but yeah, no games are on the internal for me either. That also saves some wear and tear and more importantly, heat!

@NEStalgia That's what I mean, you are not using the internal HDD that much after all. It's true that the HDD is not easily replaceable but if it ever breaks you can always send the console to Microsoft for repair. That's what I would do anyway. It worries me more that most smartphones (and Nintendo Switch!) have non-replaceable Lithium-ion batteries that die fast and easily unlike HDDs and fans (except for a jinx like you ).

@NEStalgia Not exactly new wave: it's called positive realism. You could have figured it out from me being in sales & marketing: that sector is filled to the brim with 'yes we can' ideology, and then some.

Pretty logical as well, obviously: no sales man ever became successful thinking that he couldn't do that which he was hired to do...

As for all that vice-versa stuff happening on your end: that's probably just personal perception, because it only works in one way, and there's no custom-built package for certain individuals, so if we dig deep enough, we'll probably find that there's actually a positivist buried somewhere inside of you.

As for DOA: got them all, ever since the Dreamcast, and I bought the first one once it became backwards compatible with the Xbox 360. I don't mind the jiggle, and it doesn't take away from the fact that it is a really good fighting game with rather deep fighting mechanics, and once you're busy trying to beat the crap out of your opponent, you've got better things to do than looking at bouncy bits, so it doesn't bother me at all, nor do I buy the games for that.

The spin-off games on the other hand... Yeah... I did grab the Xbox 360 version from the bargain bin for something around $10, just to find out what it was, since I'd never played the previous one. Besides the rather lecherous photo/model mode, there's actually a decent volleyball game in there, as well as some pretty good casino games, with tough to beat opponents, so it was money well-spent, in my opinion. Wouldn't have bought it full price, mind you...

@ThanosReXXX great takes there about positivity/thinking man. I share similar thoughts! Off topic just wanted to give you some props for it

@redd214 Thanks, and right back at'cha. Lord knows I've been through some pretty hard times, but if
I wouldn't have been able to keep a positive mindset, I might as well have jumped off a bridge, because times have been pretty damn dark on occasion, these last two years. But I got through it, and here we are. Still alive and kicking, and enjoying talking about games and creeping @NEStalgia out with quasi new-age stuff...

@BlueOcean Actually Switch's battery is pretty easily replaceable (easier than the XBox HDD) assuming you can find an appropriate part for it since it's not officially supplied. For Switch you just unscrew the back plate (6 screws), disconnect one (delicate) ribbon, and pop out the shield plate....the battery connects right in. I'm not sure parts are available but I'm sure soon enough some Chinese generic brand will have them on amazon and ebay if not already.

Phones and tablets (and ultrabook laptops), though, yeah....that worries me even more than the X1 HDD, at least you CAN get to that in a pinch without peeling LCDs off adhesive etc. Even Surface is as disposable as a candy wrapper.

@ThanosReXXX Yeah, good point, there's a reason I'm not in sales "Yes we can" is replaced by "are you really sure you want to do that?" If there's a positivist buried somewhere inside me, it's a result of the #MeatAndGreet program (you were in that thread right? )

Yeah, but with DoA6 I they made some noises they were aware of the game's image, and wanted to kind of make the game less fringe and clean it up a bit. I don't mind either way about the jiggle and such, but it's a little disappointing that if they went back on that the game will still kind of hide in the shadows, while MK, a worse (but fun) fighter, IMO remains very highly played. MK, IMO can't stand up to the likes of Tekken/Soul Calibur/Street Fighter....but DoA can...and should....but gets pushed outside it due to it's adolescence.

Though I'm still not sure where Smash sits. It's a game with no real combos and primarily two button attacks and is taken competitively more seriously than all of the above

The beach spinoffs: Admit it, you're saving for an Occulus in hopes they release one for it aren't you?

@NEStalgia Yes I was, much to my dismay. I liked the skits concerning the Buzz Lightyear thingy much better.
I used to be in the chit-chat thread more often, and I also had notifications to follow the thread switched on, but at some point, getting 12 to 15 notifications a day of one thread filled with nonsense turns from funny to annoying, so I left.

Nowadays, I take a quick peek every now and then, to see what gives and if it inspires me to add my two cents or not, but if people want to react or want me to respond, they'd better tag me, because I'm not going to follow the thread anymore.

Saving for an Oculus, yes, but not for games like those. Forgot to mention that I'm no fan of big-breasted women. I like mine small and perky. And natural...

Just read my tagline underneath this comment...

As for Mortal Kombat games: I don't think they're all that bad. I've got two of the three the previous games on the 360, and I actually enjoyed the re-imagining of it into a 2.5D title, with varying camera angles and in-game cut scenes, so I've enjoyed them. Not as much as a full on, 3D and 360 degree fighters, but still more than good enough in my book.

@ThanosReXXX I definitely like MK and Injustice games a lot....I just don't think they're as solid a fighter as those others, while DoA definitely is (if not more solid in some ways)...they just always shoot their credibility in the foot with their art design. They were going to fix it...but looking at what they are making....nope....definitely still aiming for the foot.

@redd214 Really? Although you're a Forza only guy, I feel I do have to draw your attention to SpinTires: Mudrunner, because it's a great game for people that like cars, and who like to let out the little boy that wants to play with cars in the mud, every once in a while, so if you do have an active Game Pass account, I'd say give it a go. If you don't like it, you can still remove it again, and it'll all be without any extra cost to you.

As for me: there's more than enough: Ori is a beautiful game, Shadow Warrior 2 is an almost hilariously entertaining first person hack & slash, then there's Mortal Kombat X and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice looks pretty damn good and interesting as well.

@NEStalgia I did get that the first time, and what I was trying to convey, is that you can only do so much with side-on fighters, whereas both from a technical aspect AND a character move-set perspective, there's so much more that you can do with a full-fat, true 3D fighter, so that is probably why it feels like a more complete, real, or satisfying experience for quite a few people.

But for Mortal Kombat, that didn't work out so well. They've tried several times, and yet they've returned to the side-on view, so that should tell you something, if anything.

On a side note: credibility isn't exactly a word that goes hand in hand with Dead or Alive, so I was never expecting them to "change their ways"...
EDIT:
Corrected my comment after having read yours a bit better...

@ThanosReXXX eh watched gameplay of it in the past not really something I want to play. Played Hellblade, wasn't a fan, the over the top gore in MK is a bit much for me, don't play soccer games and Ori looks great just have no interest in playing it. Thanks for the reco though, glad there's things you'll like in there.

@ThanosReXXX True about 3D fighters, but the glaring exception is Street Fighter. They've stuck rigidly 2D all along, not even going 2.5D like MK/Injustice, and I think the fighting remains much tighter (the 90's are here forever, maan!) I think NetherRealm relatively intentionally sacrifices the integrity of the paper rock scissors of fighting games in exchange for their trademark flashy actions. It does make for a fun, different kind of game, but it puts it in a different conversation than the pure balanced fighters. It comes out like half action game, half fighter. Kind of like Smash, really, but with more full featured movesets.

Which is all fine and good, and probably necessary to find a niche in the fairly rigid fighter genre. But DoA comparatively, mechanically, stands toe to toe with the pure balanced games. Even above them. But as long as they keep wanting to go purile with it, it will never be regarded as such. Credibility and jiggle bikinis don't go in the same package....wait...pun....nevermind.

NEStalgia

ThanosReXXX

@redd214 Funny you should mention that about Mudrunner. I don't know who with, but a couple of days ago, when this game was mentioned in an article, me and some other guy were in full agreement of this being one of those games that you can't really know or it doesn't exactly convey it's "feel" in a video.

He even said the same about watching videos, he found them rather "meh", so to speak, but for some reason, he still tried the game anyway, and it still got him hooked, after he played it for a bit.

Not trying to convince you here, just saying that A. it's free to try (provided you have Game Pass), and
B. a video doesn't tell you everything, own experience does.

@NEStalgia Isn't that just what I've already said, about credibility? (granted, AFTER an edit or two... )

And how do you figure Street Fighter not being 2.5D? The latest outings most definitely are...

NEStalgia

@ThanosReXXX Yes, I was just corroborating what you were saying.

SF isn't really 2.5D. It's 3D rendered, but it's a 2D game. 2.5D uses the Z plane of movement with a fixed side camera (or even occasional camera rotation like DKC:TF.) MK and Injustice use the Z plane and camera rotation for special environmental attacks and such. SF is purely a 2D game. If you replace the models with sprites, nothing would change. MK and Injustice would lose the depth the environmental attacks utilize.

NEStalgia

redd214

@ThanosReXXX moreso about the gameplay itself not how it "feels" just doesn't look fun to me, have more than enough to play right now anyways, thanks though!

redd214

ThanosReXXX

@NEStalgia No, that's not really what constitutes 2.5D. It's actually really simple: a 2.5D game is nothing more and nothing less than 3D characters (and/or a 3D world) in a (mostly) fixed, 2D view. Much like Donkey Kong Country Returns, those 3DS Castlevania and Metroid games, the new Mega Man game, and so on, and so on.

Added camera angles and so on don't change anything about that fact.

From the official description of the phenomenon:

The two-and-a-half-dimensional (2.5D, alternatively three-quarter and pseudo-3D) perspective is either 2D graphical projections and similar techniques used to cause images or scenes to simulate the appearance of being three-dimensional (3D) when in fact they are not, or gameplay in an otherwise three-dimensional video game that is restricted to a two-dimensional plane with a limited access to the third dimension.

@ThanosReXXX that last line is it though. Dkctf, mkx, Injustice, have limited access to that third dimension. Sf has zero access to it.
