Do you think I use my phone for calling people? Of course not.

I am glad to be the techno-hermit who still willingly uses a flip phone. :)
I still carry my portable consoles around and even on my 3DS, I rarely use the Internet features. I shopped on ebay once for the novelty. Tried looking up maps once on a game I got stuck on. My 3DS (and also my PSP) couldn't load my favorite game maps page (though that's probably a fault of the page than the console). Still doesn't change that browsing on a portable is annoying.
I wouldn't want to sit and watch youtube on a tiny screen.
But I can see why people would want to watch them on a home console.

They did it again with the PS3; if I recall, the PS3 was cheaper than some standalone BluRay players.

More like ALL players. Sony's big justification for buying a PS3 for $600 at launch was that the CHEAPEST standalone BD player on the market at that time was $1000. (though that was when it was also competing against HD-DVD. Of course when the rival format surrendered, it increased the market demand for BD)

Then if that's the case, then what's the point of getting DVD players and mp3's when your game console can do all that? Sure not everyone's gonna get a console but you might as well make them because the DVD players and all would be pointless when the game consoles are doing that.

If you want just a video player, it's generally cheaper, probably better at the job since it's dedicated, and usually more compact.

Why complain about a good thing? If it doesn't interfere with the games, so you got no need to worry.

I think they just need to improve Netflix. PCM 5.1 must be harder to get over the internet than Dolby.

Hmm.. I use my 3DS XL to download and view pictures. And I also use it to browse.

You're kind of asking a weird question here.

There are few places that my PS3 slim does not fit, and it is fantastic at playing DVDs, Blu rays, PS3 games, and has a large enough hard drive to store my digital music and movies. I do not need a DVD player or a CD player or any of that jazz, because I own a PS3 (my laptop does all of that too, and does it even better than the PS3, but sometimes I want to watch a Bluray on a screen larger than my laptop).

There is no point in owning both. That's why nobody who owns a Playstation or Xbox bothers buying a DVD player. Good news for manufacturers though. The 6.8 billion people on the planet who do not own a Playstation or Xbox are still in their potential market.

And an mp3 player is portable. I can put it in my pocket and listen to music wherever I go. You know, sort of like how a 3DS is portable and a Wii U is not.

I use my Vita as a portable movie player in addition to using it as a portable console. Shows look great on the OLED screen!

I use my phone as an mp3 player. It plays music perfectly fine, and this way I don't have to buy a separate music player to be able to listen to music on my walk to University.

I would do that, but my music collection no longer fits on my phone.
