Then if that's the case, then what's the point of getting DVD players and mp3's when your game console can do all that? Sure not everyone's gonna get a console but you might as well make them because the DVD players and all would be pointless when the game consoles are doing that.
You're kind of asking a weird question here.
There are few places that my PS3 slim does not fit, and it is fantastic at playing DVDs, Blu rays, PS3 games, and has a large enough hard drive to store my digital music and movies. I do not need a DVD player or a CD player or any of that jazz, because I own a PS3 (my laptop does all of that too, and does it even better than the PS3, but sometimes I want to watch a Bluray on a screen larger than my laptop).
There is no point in owning both. That's why nobody who owns a Playstation or Xbox bothers buying a DVD player. Good news for manufacturers though. The 6.8 billion people on the planet who do not own a Playstation or Xbox are still in their potential market.
And an mp3 player is portable. I can put it in my pocket and listen to music wherever I go. You know, sort of like how a 3DS is portable and a Wii U is not.
I use my Vita as a portable movie player in addition to using it as a portable console. Shows look great on the OLED screen!
I use my phone as an mp3 player. It plays music perfectly fine, and this way I don't have to buy a separate music player to be able to listen to music on my walk to University.

I would do that, but my music collection no longer fits on my phone.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
