I know there are 2 slim models of the PS3, but does one have more problems than the other? Also, which one is cheaper?

Better and more aesthetically pleasing? The PlayStation 3 slim.

Cheaper and more widely available? The PlayStation 3 'super slim'.

Neither of the above has any real problems (it was the original model that had those 'yellow lights' issues), and both are very capable - and upgradable - Blu-ray players too.

So super slim would be the better choice then? I know the slims aren't BC though:/ which is odd

@Peek-a-boo The first one. The normal Slim. I don't like how you have to insert the game disc on the Super Slim.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I have the super slim and it's perfectly functional and has lasted us for a long time.

I appreciate the manual disc tray too... No need to turn it on to remove the disc.

@SeaSalty Yes, the first and original slim model is best.

If you want backwards compatiablity, you will have to find an almost ten years old PlayStation 3 that was available for up to a year after launch before they took the BC feature away.

Sony openly said that less than 1% of players were using it!

I hope this helps.

@DefHalan It does look a little cheap.

But the original "fat" looks like a beast!

I just assumed that Playstation 3 and 4 were BC, because I thought, why wouldn't they be??

Guess I'm just used to Nintendo...although the later Wii models aren't BC

On the PS3 you can download ps1 and ps2 games...

Not exactly backwards compatibility, but it's something.

Also, all models have BC with PS1 (Every once in awhile I'll pop in my old copy of Crash Bandicoot into our Slim).

It was only PS2 BC that was dropped after the original model.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

@RR529 is right all PS3 models are BC with PS 1 games. I have played a bunch of PS games discs through out the years on all models of the PS3.
