1. Choose your age as well as your gender (I'm tired of being a kid. "This is a place for grown-ups." Ugh.).
2. Have a "surrender" option
3. Replace "run" with "call" during trainer battles (a la Coliseum/XD)
4. Better graphics on the DS versions
5. Be able to reject trainer battles
6. A "Have you played before?" option
7. Provide a better purpose than just competition
8. Actually show attacks like tackle instead of just some invisible force knocking the pokemon back
9. Introduce a pre-evolution of Kangaskhan
10. Remove all yes/no questions that you can't say "no" to.

I agree with 5 & 8,I hate having to battle trainers you know you can beat with one attack. And showing the attacks would be awesome.

I hear its amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on hari-kiri rock!!! I NEED SCISSORS!!! 61!!!

5, 8.

I want to be able to rebattle trainers, but they are stronger each time. I want it to be on the Wii instead of the DS. We never got a proper 3D Pokemon game.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

I agree with 2, 3, 5, and 8.

I'd like fewer Pokemon. There are just way too many to keep track of right now. They could do a "reboot" of the series, but I think most fans would hate that. They could do an alternate world, like how the Final Fantasy series recreates itself with each sequel, but that would be pointless. Or they could just do a secluded area of the world with few carry-over Pokemon, or just do new stories on existing continents but with only a few added Pokemon (probably a bad idea also). I don't know. Probably won't happen in any way.

Showing moves would be cool. I could live without it, though. I like leaving it to the imagination fine enough.

Better balanced Pokemon. I haven't played all the Pokemon games, but most end up having lots of Pokemon that are worthless in competition, despite the emphasis on collecting them all.

More interesting Pokemon would be nice, but maybe they've already corrected this in the last game, I wouldn't know. In the original there were way too many that were basically ordinary animals with weird names and minor changes.

I'd like something less linear, too, but I don't know how well that would work. I just find it too odd that your first gym master is practically the worst Pokemon trainer ever, and the last one is really good. It makes no sense in the game's world. It'd be nice if you had other objectives mid-game that could more logically be scaled to your experience level, while all the gym masters are mostly pretty good.

Really, I just want something significantly different, but I understand the Pokemon series is not made for me, and I'm okay with that. I think sometimes about getting an old Game Boy and a copy of Red off Ebay because that is still my favorite, though the remakes and other GBA ones were pretty good, too.

To sum it up, more balance (like what Adam said) and strategy. Battles end way to quickly. It also seems that there's only this set of moves to teach this Pokemon and you have to max out this stat's EV's or else you will get owned by anyone on WI-FI in one hit, which in my opinion kills the spirit of the game entirely. A bigger variety in attacks that have side effects/advantages.

1. Can you imagine the sheer amount of alternate script and alternate sprites required for this? I don't really see the point, few other (no other?) games have an age option that makes any vague impact on the gameplay. Just be glad you have a gender option. You don't get to roam Hyrule as Mrs. Link even if you're actually female. Same applies to practically everything other game too.
2. Provided it resulted in the same penalties as losing a battle, then yeah, I'd like that. I hate getting stuck in battles where I can't do anything for ages and just have to wait to very slowly die, and can't reset because the last time I saved was 2 hours ago.
3. Call wouldn't have much use in the main games. Its only function in Colosseum and XD that could be carried over was waking your Pokémon. But it still costs a turn and awakening items are hardly expensive, so it barely makes a difference. I'd go for replacing it with Surrender, though.
4. Hmm. On the one hand, I like the top-down graphics with 3D areas and 2D character sprites. I wouldn't want the battles to go with 3D models because the 2D sprites are a pretty big series staple. And 3D Pokémon models on the DS would be pretty ugly. On the other hand, I'm sure that in places they could probably do quite a bit more with the hardware. Provided it sticks to the top-down sprited-characters style, then I'm happy.
5. I wouldn't want to be able to outright reject battles, as that's a basic part of the game's challenge. On the other hand, a lot of them can get really damn annoying, especially if you're trying to get somewhere in a hurry. Perhaps an item or Pokémon Ability that renders you invisible or some such for a period of steps would be good, though.
6. And what would that do? Pokémon isn't really that heavy on forced tutorial material, especially considering many the NPCs talk about nothing else. It's rare that you have to do something just in order to learn the game mechanics.
7. I don't follow. Surely the primary goal of every game is completion? And Pokémon has frequently provided a pretty sizeable postgame, especially recently. And, y'know, if you really want to get anal about stats, there's huge online communities of competitive Pokémon battlers squeezing every inch of power out of the critters. Or you could try to catch them all. Not that anyone but the dangerously obsessive does that anymore, and it's not like there's a good reward for it either (guys, that 'Gotta Catch 'Em All' slogan? They stopped using it about 7 years ago. Nobody expects you to do it nor want to do it)
8. I think the game does a decent job of showing the majority of attacks in a suitable manner. And at the end of the day, it's an RPG with 493 Pokémon and 467 attacks. Coding actual collision-based stuff would be an absolute nightmare, and would leave room for literally nothing else. And it would still have to come on about 3 carts. Even the 3D games simply use a set of animations (static/physical attack/special attack/taking damage/fainting) and attack effects to show battles.
9. YES. DO IT. That purple thing sure as hell isn't Kangaskhan. And I'm still freaked out by Kangas eggs hatching new Kangas with baby already in tow. It's not like Mr. Mime which can't really be fixed (there's female Mr Mimes. Because in Japan the name for it is gender-neutral and the US localisation guys didn't forsee the introduction of genders when they were creating the English names), so I'd definately like to see that one cleared up properly.
10. Nah, that's an RPG staple. You're always gonna get a question you don't actually have a choice in the answer of. It's parodied in Super Paper Mario pretty well, as I recall. Seriously, you know when the wizard guy asks you to save the world at the start? Say no. He'll ask again. keep saying no and eventually he'll give up and you'll Game Over. I laughed at that bit. Then realised I had to go through the whole damn intro cutscene again.

Machu

I don't want much, just a fully realised 3D world with real time battles, masses of exploration and an epic story.

Slapshot

I want another one to come out in about 4 years so I will have plenty of time to reboot from the last one.

1. More attacks per pokemon. However, certain moves would be upgraded (e.g. scratch becomes slash).
2. Choose your pokemon instead of having the first on the list be used.

1. You mean more than 4 moves at a time? Nah. Building a moveset with the available slots is where all the fun is. Although I would quite like them to make the HM moves actually useful in battle. Surf is good and Waterfall isn't a bad Physical water attack, but the rest are by-and-large pretty crap. As for upgrading moves, that kinda happens through natural growth anyway. Nobody packs a Lv60 Infernape with Scratch and Ember still on it, it'll have had the opportunity to learn Close Combat and Flare Blitz by then.
2. Would it really make much difference? In the interests of fairness, both players would choose their first Pokémon not knowing what the opponent's first is, so it's still as good as random. And if you know what Pokémon the opponent is likely to have (Gym Leader, or a Swimmer, or etc), then just switch your party around before going into battle.

  • It needs to be much more visual and animated. Graphics could be much more advanced. Why no 3D Pokémon games. All the great Nintendo franchises have been translated into 3D like Zelda, Mario and Metroid, but not Pokémon. (Iconsider Colosseum and XD to be spin-offs)
  • I would also like to see the ability to create your own custom hero. That would make it a bit more personal.
  • A Dark-type gym for once. Something along the lines of Dewford Gym which had darkness would make sense.
