I like fun prediction threads. So what game that isn't being marketed as a massively important game do you think will become really popular? This doesn't mean it wouldn't be successful or popular otherwise, but more that how relevant it becomes would surprise even most people following the game before release (so think like how Shadow of Mordor was way more relevant than Watch Dogs ended up being, for example).
First of all, I think Nintendo has no choice but to make Xenoblade Chronicles X a big deal. They want to release popular games I assume, so their options are...limited, and quite frankly having an open world RPG with giant robots sounds like money to me.
Other than that though, I had literally never heard of this game until very recently. It's called ARK, and it's a VR game apparently. It looks almost No Man's Sky levels of impressive. That might be cheating a bit because apparently it's the first game announced for PS4's VR thing as well, so you'd assume it's gonna be treated as a big deal?
Honestly wish I could think of which game would fit the Hotline Miami or Broforce unexpectly big indie hit game, but I've been lacking at paying attention. Like most of the stuff I think will do really well on the eShop I can't see being big elsewhere tbh? That being said, part of me is expecting way more success for Mighty No. 9 than most people would expect (or possibly even want).
I can't see XCX being a big hit. Nintendo can push it if they want, but nobody in the west cares about animu JRPGs anymore. But that's fine. I think Nintendo likes having Monolith not for the commercial success, but for the recognition. A lot of film studios will pick up indy films from TIFF or whatever for distribution, even though they have very little in the way of commercial viability, because they become Oscar darlings during awards season. It bolsters their portfolio. As long as XCX isn't an outright commercial disaster, Nintendo will put Monolith on another project called Xenosomething, because right now, Nintendo are the only of the Big 3 that have their own internal console JRPG studio, and that means something to gamers.

You say that, but then I look at the sales of Ni No Kuni or Bravely Default. Not to mention the rising popularity of Persona and Fire Emblem over here...
I mean, the same people who say that no one cares about anime JRPGs also say that no one cares about survival horror or Adventure games, so I'm not sure I should take them that seriously.
Cooking Mama 6: Guess What She's Got Cooking - Down Under Edition
Cooking Mama goes to Australia and makes some outback meals on the barby. It'll sell 690,000 in Indonesia, where it's marketed as an educational guide to foreign cuisine, and renamed: "Backdoor Salad Toss With Mel Gibson" (roughly translated).
Maybe Devils Third as it seems to be so low key at the moment but could along with other games like Splatoon bring about a switch from first person shooters to third person shooters
This may our may not be a Lego title. The privatisation of Royal Mail has seen the organisation go into decline and things have got so bad that employees are refusing to work. Nothing is getting in or out of Greendale.... not unless Pat can do anything about it, aided, of course, by his ever loyal partner, Jess. An action adventure with platforming, puzzles and third person shooter elements.
It'll be hard for Nintendo at this point cos people are fairly confident the Wii U is on its way out. So it'll be hard to get Xenoblade as much hype as Splatoon got because not as many people are going to buy a console that has no future, which was less clear when Splatoon came out!

On the contrary, JRPGs with proper characterization and narrative depth receive plenty of praise and recognition. It follows that Persona 5 will be a great hit via word of mouth.
Other niche titles, Severed will probably be big on the Vita because it's, like, the only fleshed out Vita-exclusive this year. And it looks dope.
And, really, I don't know why people doubted Shadow of Mordor so much. I was on board from the first Game Informer article. It was a fun, dumb referential story with no less than the best 'Batman's Creed'-style combat to date.
Vita games hardly need the "niche" qualifier. All Vita games post-2012 are niche. Selling 200k copies of a Vita game worldwide is a decent accomplishment these days.
But I'm definitely looking forward to Danganronpa, Steins;Gate, Trails of Cold Steel, and Corpse Party.
