Topic: What is the point of Kinect?

Many people have been praising Kinect as 'a revolution in gaming' because of its controllerless control method and voice...er...control.
In my opinion, though, Kinect is a step backwards. Firstly, I think the voice control is plain pointless. It's easier to press a button to play a movie than to say "Xbox, play". And, in the words of the brilliant Charlie Brooker, "talking to your Xbox makes you look like a dork".
I also think the motion control limits the kind of game you can play. In some cases, like the dancing game shown at E3, it works well, but wouldn't you rather turn a steering wheel to drive a racecar than use your bare hands? And how would you play a game like Super Mario Bros without a controller? Does anyone else feel the same way I do about Kinect? I have nothing against motion-controlled games, but to me Kinect is just a gimmick.

thing is, loads of people said the wiimote was just a gimmik. and look how that turned out.
but i can see the real problem with kinect is. microsoft aren`t exactly known for first party games, and as far as i`m aware, they`ve left it to rare, and other 3rd parties to figure out how to use kinect properly. where as, nintendo make their consoles and games tailored for each other, and the 3rd parties usually follow nintendo`s lead, because the ground work has been figured out.
so, i personaly think kinect, and move have come a bit too late, especialy when the next gen is probably only a year and a half away.
