If I had a PS4, I'd try and get the games you can only get on PS4, like:
Infamous: Second Son
Killzone: Shadowfall
Resogun
FF14: Online(I know it's on PC, but still)
That's basically it. The exclusives are what really set the consoles apart, IMHO, so that is what you should go for first.

inFamous: Second Son is a must have if you own a PS4. If you want a good racing game, Need for Speed: Rivals is a great one. A good fighting game is Injustice. If you'll be able to use the multiplayer, then Towerfall Ascension is great download game. If you want a good shumup then Resogun is good. For a good, but hard survival game, get Don't Starve (you die you die, gameover, but that's what makes it fun).
If you want a game to look into for the Holiday, I would recommend looking at Samurai Warriors 4.
Congrats on the new system! Here's my recommendations based off of games I played.
Infamous: Second Son — One of the best if not the best game on the PS4 right now. Especially if you like superhero type games.
Resogun — A great shumup if you really enjoy old school shumups. for an indie game this one is AAA material.
Strider — If you are a fan of the old Strider games or Metroidvania type games this one is right up your alley.
NBA 2K14 — If you are a basketball or sports fan I highly recommend this one and since 2K15 is coming out you can probably pick this one up pretty cheap.
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition — If you are a fan of the series like dungeon crawler games or looking for a great couch co-op game look no further.
Lego Marvel — If you are a fan of Lego's, Marvel comics, or both this game is great. Nice open world to explore and great storyline. This game you can get fairly cheap now too.
Velocity 2X — Another great shumup and if you have PS+ it's free this month
Injustice: Gods Among Us — If you like fighting games (like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat) and DC comics this game is great. Nice control plenty of characters.
Assassin's Creed IV — This game is kinda mixed. Want an AC game keep looking want an open world pirate game then look no further.
If curious you can check out game play vids of the games to see if they look like something that might interest you. Also feel free to check out reviews on Pushsquare.com
Some other games that I hear are good but haven't played yet are Last of Us (especially if you have not played it on PS3), Tomb Raider (again if you have not played it on PS3 or Xbox 360. Don't let people talk you out of it because of the exclusivity BS of the second one) and Wolfenstein.
Hope that helps.

Get Flower for the PS4.
It's by Thatgamecompany (the same people who made Journey) and its my favorite PS3 game. It got remade so, it looks and plays even better.
It's beautiful, relaxing, poetic and fun. Definitely the most unique title on PSN.
GTA V for PS4 looks amazing too, even if you have already played it
I specifically didn't buy GTA V, because it was only on 7th gen, so I'll probably buy it on Xbox One. I know it's not PS4 related, but ya. GTA V making the jump to 8th gen is actually what has convinced me to buy the game. I have the new systems, so even if the improvements aren't that big, it still makes more sense to buy them on Xbox One. The exact same logic applied when Wii U was getting 7th gen ports. I went on a bit of a tangent, but I agree that buying GTA V is a good decision, especially if you didn't play it on 7th gen platforms, and that goes for any game, really.
