What game have you played where its gameplay and mechanics was made more satisfying thanks to its art style and presentation? I personaly couldn't imagine playing Viewtiful Joe without its trademark visual presentation, it would just feel dull and mediocre.
All of the “traditionally animated” platformers of the fourth generation. Genesis Aladdin, Earthworm Jim 1&2, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, Mickey Mania—these are some of my favorite 2D games, and their animation remains unsurpassed even by most modern games.
Also the even more impressive-looking Donkey Kong Country trilogy. The first game in the series would hardly be worth talking about if it weren't for its graphics (and soundtrack).
I would still like Kirby's Dream Land 3 if it didn't have the crayon style, but not nearly as much.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
Everything from Vanillaware, Paper Mario, Wind Waker, El Shaddai, Child of Light, Shovel Knight. If these games weren't as beautiful as they were, their entire atmosphere wouldn't be nearly as impacting.
Okami was my first thought as well. Beautiful game. A perfect blend of gameplay and aesthetics, with the art style also complimenting the setting nicely.
