Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)

Is that the only racing game you ever played? I never thought I'd see that game in someone's all-time top ten games list...

Fair question. But no, I have played a lot and do own a lot. I love this Need for Speed in particular for a couple of main reasons: it's not open world (like Most Wanted, which I did own at one point) and it's an arcade racer, not a sim (I own Forza 4 and have owned GT 6 in the past). I just love the simplicity of picking an event, picking a car, and racing. It's everything that I want in a racer and honestly, I haven't found another racer that does this better. Plus the graphics are great. It's just mindless and relaxing fun to me.

I also played around with Grid 2, but the handling just felt off. I also still own and love Burnout 2, but unfortunately my Wii no longer plays Game Cube games. I still have every Mario Kart game that I've ever owned as well, but there's just something about driving real world cars with realistic graphics, so obviously the Mario Kart series doesn't scratch that itch.

Bit long winded, but I hope that answers your question.

Actually, it is somewhat open world as you can start at any race point in the game and drive around all roads in the game. I agree the simple setup is nice. I also liked the return of the car introductions from the earlier NFS games, but beyond that there is very little great as far as I'm concerned. The gameplay isn't as good as earlier NFS games or similar playing games like Burnout and Ridge Racer, the rubberbanding AI can be very annoying and it adds insult to injury by not even including splitscreen multiplayer, one of the best features of earlier NFS games and racing games in general.

This is very difficult for me, I really shouldn't be posting a list yet as I don't feel equipped to give 10. I own a few of the games listed by others but haven't played them yet. Mind has gone a bit blank. I've never really kept a ranking in mind. But I'm gonna go with some provisionals:

Monkey Island 1 & 2
Sensible Soccer
Championship Manager
Mario Kart 8
FIFA (thinking particularly of 13 cos I put so many great hours into the Wii U online; and 06 on Gamecube with the Challenges)
Goldeneye (N64)
Left 4 Dead 2 (online)
Project Gotham Racing
Sega Rally
Super Cars 2

Well there's 10. But I'm sure there's some amendments to be made. But skewed in favor of racing games right now.

Is it weird that I keep a list of my favorite games of all time? Whenever I get a new one, I put it somewhere on the list. So here's my Top

10. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U)
9. Tomodachi Life (3DS)
8. LEGO City Undercover (Wii U)
7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
6. Mario Kart 8 (Wii U)
5. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Wii U)
4. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)
3. Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)
2. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)

My first console was the Wii so I haven't played GCN and before.

Currently playing: Bayonetta 2

I prefer not to list multiple titles from the same series, since it might look a bit biased. So the order of my bottom 5 can vary; I'll just list them as I remember:

10. F-Zero GX
9. Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko
8. The Grinch (PS One)
7. Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike
6. Star Fox Assault

My top 5 have been pretty concrete for awhile, so without further ado:

5. Super Smash Bros. Melee
4. Sonic Colors
3. Megaman Legends
2. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
1. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

I'd love to see a new game break my top 5, but it'd have to be really spectacular.

I don't keep such a list, but I do rate most of my games with 1 through 5 stars. But there are so many 5 stars games I can't narrow it down to anything close to a top 10.

In no particular order (apples and oranges and all), with only one title from each series:

Suikoden II
Arkham City
Disgaea
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Bayonetta 2
Wonderful 101
Mega Man 2
LOZ: Skyward Sword
Unirally
Mario Kart 8

Although I have a really bad memory as I'm now in my 30's, so more recent games are bound to jump out over some stonewall classics.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Commandervide0

I've done a top 13. Couldn't leave out 11-13, there too good to leave out.

5 Star fox 64 3D
6 Animal crossing wild world
7 Pokemon diamond

That's a terrible excuse. Get em played! Playing older games is good because at least you can weed out all of the duds.

Here goes:
1)Metroid Prime Trilogy (Does this count haha?)
2)Galaxy 1/2
3)Kid Icarus Uprising (SO GOOD)
4)Wind Waker
5)Ocarina of Time
6)Tropical Freeze (Best 2D platformer i have played and best soundtrack for a video game.)
7)Rayman Origins/Legends (Origins is definitely better but i prefer legends for some reason)
8)Dragon Quest 9
9)Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire (Don't play the games anymore but these were huge parts of my childhood).
10) Minecraft (While i have no interest in it now it was one of the first games i was completely and utterly absorbed into and got me into youtube letsplayers)

Honourable mentions: Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D world, Batman Arkham Asylum, the Monster Hunter series and the Star Wars Battlefront games (RIP hype for Battlefront 3).
It is kinda weird that pretty much all games on this list can be played on Nintendo systems, i have always played on other platforms but i guess they just don't stick with me as much.

You could always just put your favorite games and limit it to one per franchise. I mean, that's more or less what you did there anyways.

10. BIT. TRIP COMPLETE - I don't really think I have to say anything regarding this one.

9. Half-Life 2: Episode 2 - This was the first Half-Life game that I thoroughly enjoyed. The Antlion Caves and, in particular, defending White Forest at the end were incredible moments in the game.

8. Super Mario Galaxy/Crash: Twinsanity - I consider these two games to be the best 3D Platformers I've played (and yes, I have a distinct preference for linear 3D Platformers). Super Mario Galaxy, despite being pretty easy, I prefer the slightly unlinear nature of the game over Galaxy 2's very linear nature. This game just got it right. There's a sense of progression, but each mini-level in the form of a planetoid offers some exploration. Each Galaxy also has such a fantastic atmosphere. Crash: Twinsanity was my first 3D Platformer (heck it was one of my first non-SNES games in general). It lacks polish, but I still just love it. The cutscenes are some of the funniest in any game I've played, the soundtrack is comprised entirely with uniquely brilliant occasionally synthesized a Capella tracks, and the levels blend seamlessly into one another, creating a fantastic sense of progression and adventure. The game has plenty of flaws, due to it's unfortunately rushed development (rehashing of art assets in later portions of the game, some bugs, and the short length of the game make this more than clear [the devs even jokingly refer to this in a line within the game]) but every time I sit down to replay this game, I just have fun.

7. To the Moon - Despite being pretty far removed from the typical definition of a game (story takes the absolute forefront here, with the gameplay being very light, but allowing for extremely effective storytelling), this game is fantastic. I can't really explain why To the Moon is so good. It's a well crafted story which employs some very unique narrative techniques, which I'm not entirely sure could be executed outside of games. (And for those who have played it and want to know: Yes, I cried.)

6. Cave Story - This game introduced me to Indie Developers, and proved a dumb, young me wrong in so many ways. When the demo for this game went up, I thought it was some dumb, gun obsessed shooter (because guns=evil, if the gun is in a video game). I downloaded the demo, just to prove how I was right and that the game was terrible, and had some of the best fun I had ever had at the time. This game really got me to start playing games other than those made by Nintendo, regardless of quality.

5. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past/Ocarina of Time : I used to really like Twilight Princess, and I really need to replay the entire series, but watching my sister replay it, I didn't particularly find any fondness for it. I have a ton of nostalgia for A Link to the Past, as it was my favorite game growing up. It was one of the games that I can really remember beating. It's probably the most satisfying game I've completed. Ocarina of Time on the other hand, is still a stellar 3D Zelda. This game got the "Adventure" aspect of the series right in a way that hasn't been quite repeated for me. The dungeons are also challenging, but fun (judging from memories).

4. Tales of Symphonia - I had played most of, and couldn't stand, its sequel. I did have some familiarity with the world and character though, so actually understanding what was going on and seeing the original locations was a great experience. This is by far my favorite Tales game.

3. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - This game has so many fantastic maps. Slowly solving the hardest ones (the final map of Part 2 in particular) was just fantastic.

2. Grandia II - This game, hands down, has the best JRPG combat in any game I've played. The story was enjoyable, the pacing was pretty solid.

1. Xenoblade Chronicles - This game came at just the right time for me. I hadn't been playing many RPGs, and this game welcomed me back to the genre.

And please forgive me for this textwall...
