I finally gave in and bought a PS2, almost entirely because of the Final Fantasy series, namely FFVII. I'll try and make this as broad as possible, so this thread isn't just all about me. (Even though it pretty much is. MUAHAHAHA) What are some great titles for PS/PS2 that you think everyone "must buy" starting a collection? I'm not very learned compared to some, in the lore of Sony, but here are my choices: FFVII-XII (excluding FFXI) Dirge of Cerberus Chrono Cross Metal Gear Solid series
You might as well pick up Kingdom Hearts along with FFVII-XII and you can't go wrong with the metal gear series.

My personal favorites for the ps2 are Devil May Cry 3, Metal Gear Solid 3 - Snake Eater and you can pick up both games dirt cheap. For the original ps1 I would have to say Metal Gear Solid. You obviously know what Rpgs are good so I am not going to state any.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about Kingdom Hearts, that's another one I'm looking forward to getting. I played through about half the game and then I gave up on it, I'd like to try it again.

Megadrive Mega Collection (I think there's a better version of it available on the PS360 with more games) Global Defense Force Gungrave Overdose Psychonauts We Katamari Ratchet & Clank (I only have the second one but supposedly they're all good) Ôkami Black (maybe, if you're into that sort of thing, just don't believe the talk about a highly destroyable environment, destroyable things aren't more common than explosive barrels in other games)
I've got some popular games that IMO are vastly overrated: God of War, Devil May Cry 3, Rez and Odin Sphere. Disgaea is also an unbearable amound of grind IMO.
You NEED to buy Kingdom Hearts I, Kingdom Hearts II, AND Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories. Those games are the best PS2 games ever made. You should also buy Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for the Nintendo DS.
If there's 3 PS2 games you ever buy, make them: 1. Okami 2. Shadow of the Colossus 3. Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time
Withou a doubt, 3 of the best games of all time (Okami is my favorite game ever. Shadow of the Colossus is easily in the Top 5)
