Wires, wires, wires, and cables. I love the VR experience, and PSVR really works well...but by the time I set up the camera, an extension cable, find a place to put it, sit down, strap in the headset, strap in headphones, get it ajusted, then get told that I'm not centered and need to calibrate it, then take the headphones off, take the headset off, walk over, adjust the camera where I think it should be, put the headset back on, put the headphones back on....and HOPE I don't have to adjust it more and do it all again....it's kind of a miserable experience even if the gameplay after the fact feels worthwhile. I end up never using it because it takes 20 minutes just to get started, and a whole mess of tangles and confusion. Someday.....

@NEStalgia So you're saying you unplug everything after a VR session and pack it all up? Just leave it where it is. I only unplug the headset itself. Camera stays where it is.

@Octane I've been leaving the control box connected (though I'm still unsure if that's wise letting it run hundreds of hours for non-vr games.) I unplug the headset, and the headphones need to be unplugged from the headset (I don't use the included earbuds, they just don't fit well.) And then the camera I have to put away because there's no place for it, I have to run it out across the room and stand it on a box or something. Can't leave that in the middle of the room with the wire crossing through as a permanent setup!

So every session involves configuring and positinoing the camera (which it never wants to stay put, either since the cable weighs it down, so it rotates or tilts over even if I don't move it!

@Nestalgia, why don't you just leave the camera on the TV stand in front of the TV? That's what I do.

@RR529 i do my 2d gaming on a monitor up close... The actual tv isn't actually directly in front it's more off to the side, which is fine for tv, and i don't use it for games.... But that won't work for a vr camera that needs to be centered. Plus the ps4 isn't in front, it's in the back next to the couch with the av rack.... So the cord would have to run across the room anyway. Vr becomes painful with anything other than the most average ikea showroom setup

Cleared that section in Farpoint that was giving me trouble. Turns out I was trying to gun my way through a section best tackled with stealth (made it through my first try with that approach, so my frustration was mostly my own fault).

Made it through the rest of the mission, and the entirety of the next (though that one was a slower, more story focused affair) without much trouble.

Sorry for double posting, but this seems like pretty big news (I first saw it over on Push Square). Looks like there's going to be an E3 VR event (pre-recorded like Directs & State of Play), that will announce new games for all prominent headsets (some announcements are promised to be big).

While I was in Tokyo over Golden Week I tried an arcade VR machine that appeared to use a PSVR headset. But I found that I needed my glasses to be able to see anything. I found this bizarre because I am distinctly nearsighted. I can normally see things in front of my face perfectly clearly. But wearing the headset blurred the image like it were far away. But my eyes could still tell it was close up and this left me extremely disoriented.

I wasn't even away arcade VR machines existed prior to that so I tried it just because I hadn't seen one before.

@Heavyarms55, was the game any fun?

The only VR arcade game I've heard of is the Mario Kart VR game, but I know there are more (I actually watched a VR tour of a Japanese arcade on YouTube VR, and there was one machine that did indeed use a PSVR, but I can't remember the name).

@RR529 I couldn't play it. With my glasses on I could not get the headset to fit properly without smashing my glasses up against my face. This game was not Mario Kart VR, which I haven't seen very often in arcades. It was a racing game though. I wasn't so much interested in the game as seeing if I liked VR better when combined with an arcade machine.

Has anyone bought, or buying the Oculus Quest? I am very much interested in buying it myself and the reviews for the most part seem incredibly positive around the unit. But I would like to hear from anyone who owns one first as I have a couple of questions.

@FragRed Yes. I got my Oculus Quest on release day, and it's incredible. I always expected to have a good time with it, but it has surpassed my expectations. I would totally recommend it to anyone interested in VR.

@HexagonSun That is absolutely great to hear. The thing seems to be selling out here in the UK, so I put an order down for the 128gb version. It's annoyingly £100 more than the 64gb version but it is future proofed. I am a little concerned about the light leakage as I heard there can be quite a lot depending on the size of your nose? I assume it's to do with the space of the helmet that bridges across your nose?

I'm more interested in the Oculus Rift S and the VIVE Cosmos myself. No tethers sounds great, but my PC can finally handle VR, and there's already a large library of games to choose from on Steam and the like. Plus, any upgrades I make to my PC down the line will also benefit my VR experience without having to also upgrade my headset.

What's great about the Quest is that I can take it anywhere and do roomscale VR. There's already some very good ports of Rift games with more on the way. I don't have time for console/PC gaming with my job, so the Quest makes a perfect companion to my Switch.

@FragRed As far as light leakage, it's been nothing that's bothered me, and I have a smaller nose.

FragRed

@HexagonSun That's great to hear, as I too have a small nose. It should be arriving Thursday all being well.

@FragRed Good for you. I'll be surprised if you're dissatisfied. My daughter's boyfriend has an HTC Vive and she claimed she likes the Quest more. The Quest has better resolution, so that may be it. I'm sure it's just a matter of taste. If you're sensitive to wires, Quest is a good choice. I only got the 64 gb model as Oculus is promising cloud saves. That's good enough for me, though I wish they included an SD card slot.

@FragRed Please share your impessions. I love the Quest, so it would be great to hear a second opinion. I'm surprised I'm the only one here. Anyone else tried it?

CanisWolfred

@HexagonSun I mean, it's like, $400 and it just came out, while you're posting on a Nintendo forum. I'm more surprised I'm hearing about the new Oculus headsets on here of all places when I just put in all the work researching this stuff last week...

@CanisWolfred I hear you. I heard about the Quest a year before it came out when it was code named Santa Cruz. I pre-ordered it the moment I was able, but started saving long before. It's weird that Facebook bought out Oculus, but I believe in what they're doing. VR isn't going to take off until it's a stand alone unit. I think the Quest has the potential to be that. It's an amazing system.

Also, I'm a huge Nintendo fan, so that's why I'm posting on a Nintendo forum. I've had every Nintendo system since the NES. I really want Nintendo to do VR beyond Labo VR, which I have. I'm hopeful that the Switch 2 or 3 will have native VR support, but I'm not willing to wait that long for Nintendo to do it.

The Oculus Quest is a great companion system for the Switch. They're both systems that feature games that were considered for dedicated consoles or PC only. I only have time for portable systems now, with my job. I feel lucky to have my cake and eat it too, so to speak.
