Great game company, or greatest game company?

Creators of:
Left 4 Dead
Half Life
Half Life 2
Team Fortress 2
Portal
Counter Strike
AND Day of Defeat

Discuss the companies games, give steam IDs and whatnot here.

I used to think a LOT of Valve. I really enjoyed Half Life and Half Life 2. Portal actually isnt a Valve game fully. It was originally created in a gaming school and picked up by Valve. Counter Strike is Only the largest online gaming shooter ever
I dont like Valve attitude toward anything that isn't Microsoft though. The Orange Box is on PS3 but apparantly Valve doesnt want to develop on anything but Microsoft product anymore.

Great? Sure. Greatest? Nope.

some good games and steam service can be good for cheaper games and indie games. however, only a few were really valve developed games. counter strike started as a mod and so did team fortress. Really mainly half life games and left 4 dead that were completely valve games

Yeah, but the creators of Team Fortress, Portal, Counter Strike etc. now work for Valve, so Valve, technically, made those games.

As for their preference of Microsoft, I think it has something to do with that their founder and co-founder used to work for Microsoft and created Half Life because they were bored. I'd agree that if they supported the PS3 or even the Wii it would, indeed, be awesome. (The only Valve related thing on Wii is Still Alive on Rock Band.) Still, Valve has always been more of the ultimate PC FPS company. Really, if you're playing Valve games on anything but a computer, you're doin' it wrong.

I'm sorry, J Bittes, whenever I think of Konami I think of Rock Revolution. shudder

Someone found Half Life tedius and annoying? Which one? I've only played 2 and Episode 1. I didn't finish Episode 1 due to lack of interest, it was kinda half life overkill, but 2 was great.

I think Valve shows even more attention to the PC. I guess we are lucky to get the Orange Box on ps3,but Valve doesn't really support it with add ons and sh*t like that. I never beat the last boss on Half-life, so i hate it,but i love the rest of the series. I didn't get into Portal at all. If Valve would support sony more I'd support them more. Whenever i get my 360 Left for Dead has already been added to my list.

Well...that's obviously ignorant since they're the house built on Gradius, Castlevania, Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Pro Evolution Soccer (Winning Eleven), the TMNT arcade games but you keep being reminded by one game and not acknowledge the amazing series they've produced...oh I forgot...Contra too...yep, Konami is all crap!

I can't even begin to imagine how many hours of Half Life and Counter Strike that I've played since buying Half Life at launch. I was playing it alongside OoT, and it was the best gaming month of my life. The two best game's ever, both released at the same time, I felt very luck to have a 64 and a windows PC. To suggest Half Life could be tedious and annoying makes me sad, it amazed me then and still does. Duke Nukem, Unreal, and Quake II were in charge back then, but Half Life came out of no-where and blew them away. Run, Shoot, Think, Survive!

Then there was 'blue shift', 'opposing forces', 'counter strike' and 'team fortress', I played all of these to death long before the Steam client and the almighty Source Engine arrived.

And boy did it arrive, Half Life 2 is a piece of art and every time I play it bowls me over once more. With each replay, it seems to look better too, probably down to the fact that Valve have taken the effort to fine tune and streamline the game to the point where you can get it looking very good, on a PC that will struggle with lesser looking games. The Episodes that followed have been good but I prefer whole games instead half games.

I can't wait for a DX10 Half Life sequel, as I imagine they will raise the bar once again. And if they include the gravity and portal gun, we're on for a pure physics winner. I could jabber endlessly about Valve as they have provided me with some of the best moments in my gaming life. Only yesterday I had a moment whilst playing DoD, the only WW2 game I can stomach anymore. Unfortunately the CS community took a nose-dive when PC's became more prevalent a few years back. Now it's full of stupid kids and I hate it!

Valve are a PC developer, get over it. And I hope Valve ignore all other formats and stick with PC, why would you want to play it with anything other than PC & Mouse anyway, not even the wii-mote has outdone that control scheme, even though I thought it might. Need to stop typing now

Valve rock, Steam sucks, but Valve rock!
