J&D a reskin? Hell no. The way the world and levels are set up put it in a different class entirely. I like Crash, but IMO, not really comparable to J&D outside of some aesthetic similarities. Sly Cooper is waaay closer to Bandicoot, but I didn't see anyone complain.

The city is very confusingly laid out. At least at the beginning. I found it much easier to navigate in the rest of the games. I couldn't even find my way to the first mission, I was that lost in Jak 2. Luckily it was just a rental, but I'm still itching to get it back and try it again.

Yeah J&D felt really close to Bandicoot in terms of gameplay and aesthetic. Jak even had the spin move, you would break crates, etc. Being as ND developed both it was hard not to have any bleed over. Sure the way the world worked and was set up differently, but there were far more things copied than original.

I just don't see the Jak 2 city being poorly laid out and confusing, I only remember good memories from that game, plus the city wasn't even that big. Haven City was pretty simple after all it was on the PS2. But it had a mini map on screen and everything. I'm still waiting for the HD Jak collection for the PS3.

The way the world is laid out and the level designs are, IMO, the most important part. It's like comparing Super Mario World to Super Mario 64: You can't. Sure, you're still Mario, you can still jump, and you can still collect power-ups, but the entire focus and rest of the gameplay was changed and there's so much more that you can do. Maybe J&D is quite that dramatic, but for me, I simply can't concieve how it cannot come off as "fresh". At the very least, To me it's like, "This is what Crash should've been all along".

...but maybe I'm just baised. It is my top favorite platformer ever. I suppose my bais is getting in the way, now.

And I swear, I played for over an hour, consulting 3 different maps and never found my way to the first checkpoint. I was lost. I was very lost. You may not see how its possib;e, but I found a way. Granted, this was years ago, so maybe I'll be able to figure it out if I try it again. Until then, it still stands as the single most confusing city I had to navigate. The city was much easier in Jak 3, however. I'm not sure if they actually changed it up, though, or if the arrow constantly pointing me where to go really helped. I got lost quite a bit in Daxter, too, now that I think about it.

i have to agree with you that Jak is a lot like Crash games, but id like to expand that a little bit. all 3D platformers on the PS2 are similar. Jak, Crash, Ratchet and Clank, Rayman, (and id like to say Spryo, but i havent played it) have the same basic stuff. go around and kill cartoony enemies with various upgradable weapons/special moves and collect different things by breaking open stuff while a comedic enemy taunts you as you jump across a bunch of various levels that usually are made of different elements such as ice, water, earth, so on and so forth. its not necessarily a bad thing, but id thought i might have well brought it up since you guys were debating whether or not one was a clone of the other.

@briunj04

Yeah, that's sorta the way I see it. While I'll agree there are some basic similarities and a few signiture moves that cross over, most of the similarities are those you'd find in any 3D platformer from the PSOne era and beyond. Thanks for putting it in another perspective.

After rebuying and replaying Jak II for a few missions, I see that you're right, it's not that confusing. I have no idea why I had so much trouble before, but I just stared at the map the whole time and always found my way. It's also a very fun game once you get past that. Looks like the Jak series is 3 for 3 after all.

3. Final Fantasy X
4. Burnout 3: Takedown
5. Ratchet and Clank
6. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
7. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
8. Alien Homind
9. Destroy All Humans 2
10. Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
HONORABLE MENTION: Okami. i LOOOOOVE Okami, but ive never played it on PS2, only Wii

My problem with this list is only 3 of them are PS2 exclusive all the others from what I know were available on the Xbox and either exactly the same or slightly better.

I was going to only put down PS2 exclusives, but that would take too long to double check so here is my slightly flawed top 10:

1:Baldur's Gate
2.Sly Cooper (only the first clicked with me)
3.Ratchet and Clank (all of 'em)
4.Devil May Cry
5.God of War
6.Fatal Frame
7.GTA: Vice City
8.MGS 3 Subsistance (I despise the camera in the original MGS3, so it has to be this version)
9.Silent Hill 3
10.Virtua Fighter 4

And so many more. The Xbox and PS2 were neck and neck last gen for me.

In no particular order:

1. Dragon Quest VIII

4. Disgaea (Hilarious game)
5. Valkyrie Profile 2
6. God of War
7. Silent Hill 2
8. Suikoden 3
9, Grandia 3
10. GTA

Personally, PS1 is tied for my all time fav console, with the SNES. Both had a list of amazing games, and some of the best RPGs I've played, to date, still.
