@NEStalgia Spider-Man looks fun, but it won't be too long before it hits the $30 range or gets a GOTY edition with all the DLC. In which case I'll wait for THAT version to hit $30 as well. There's an art to being a cheapskate.

Destiny and Forza? snort Normie.

You go through the same story as Route A, but there are different side-quests, you're playing as a different character, and late-game events diverge significantly from Route A because, for large sections, 2B and 9S are separated and doing different things. Also, you get a number of extra cutscenes fleshing out characters you meet during that section of the game.

So it's not too bad.

@Ralizah Yeah, I wanted to wait for the inevitable price drop for Spiderman.....I had a moment of weakness (and a realization that no other PS exclusive on the horizon interests me at all other than Tsushima )

Hey, Destiny was free! It's like a Halo RPG....kinda cool. It's popcorn fare, but it's amusing. I'm just playing the campaign though, I don't do the online shooter thing. And Forza, I spent a decade laughing at, and then after I started playing it I felt kind of hypocritical: It's actually a really fun pure arcade racer, and honestly the best racing series I've played other than NFSMW on WiiU, Criterion's swan song....and a lot of those people work on Forza now, so it shouldn't be surprising I was wrong writing it off, I admit it, it's pure fun, pure gameplay, kinda old skool in pretty clothes. I'm not even a racing fan. I have GT:S.....I just try to forget it

For Neir is it just one play through with 2B's events and one play-through with 9S's events, or does it converge again to a 2B or third character's segment after that?

(Edit: Plus the pre-order pin for Spidey is astoundingly high quality )

@NEStalgia Route A is 2B's perspective.

Route B is 9S' perspective.

There are at least two more routes, although, having just finished Route B, I'm unsure about who I'll be controlling in them.

I've been told C and D are completely different from A and B, but I never finished A, so don't take my word for it!

For some reason this game draws me in to want to play it despite having so many games I want to play. I still have to go back to L.A. Noire. I started it but decided I wanted to play it on the big screen instead of handheld. There's like 50 games I want to play all right now!

So, C and D are indeed different. They're not entirely separate routes but you kind of play them in tandem from the viewpoints of two different characters.

And, oh man, this game is cranking the edge up to 11 in this third playthrough.

@Ralizah Really interesting (and here I thought the whole game was about 2B....)

You mean the difficulty/craziness or the story is cranked up to 11?

NEStalgia

Ralizah

@NEStalgia Let's just say the game is going out of its way now to be as edgy and insane as possible at this point. Story-wise.

I'm enjoying myself.

@Ralizah Interesting. Not that Platinum+Squeenix+Taro in a mask in a game that makes you start new game 3 times to actually continue the single main story campaign should shock me by being insane

But glad it's just insane story and not gameplay. I don't think I could take the bullet-hell getting any more extreme than it starts off as

Im surprised there isn't any comment here about “if the games makes you replay it multple time to be fun the its crap”.

Comments like that always seems to appear everytime someone here mentions Nier hahaha

@diwdiws @NEStalgia I've made no secret of the fact that I think Route B could have been integrated into Route A with relative ease. To be perfectly honest, I don't understand the route thing at all. This game could have easily been constructed as one long route. The "endings" aren't endings at all, just stopping places in the story. It's a gimmick.

But apparently Yoko Taro does this in all of his games, and it's not that big of a deal. Certainly nowhere close to being as irritating as Bravely Default was in terms of repeating content. Route B is only a few hours, tops, if you don't do a bunch of the new side-quests. Although the side-quests really flesh out the game, so I'd advise playing as many of them as possible.

@Ralizah I was going to say, an annoying and inappropriate gimmick from Yoko Taro? I'm shocked! The route thing really makes little sense even just hearing about it, and the fact that S-E had to add a video telling you "no no, just hit new game, it's not really a new game it's just the next chapter even though it says new game, just know it's not really a new game, and you're not actually done it's really just the....oh for the love of....JUST HIT THE *$#@$ BUTTON AND WATCH!" doesn't give one the idea this was a good design. It will make a sort of forgotten cult game out of what could have been more well loved.

Good to know it's not as irritating as BD though. I honestly dislike BD more the more I think on it. I don't think I'd ever play it again. Octopath is what BD should have been.

Yeah I almost always do RPG side quests, and if they're new quests and not just repeating 2B's quests again, I can handle that.

@diwdiws Haha, yeah I remember that I never knew about the route thing at first and then saw all those comments and pictured it was just an NG+ thing that you "find more each time you play it with new skills" arcade type stuff. It took a while to learn it was really just hitting new game to start the next chapter as some sort of philosophical arte cliche.

@Ralizah How long do you reckon the game is? With and without side quests, because I kinda want to do a playthrough without the side quests, because I felt gameplay and story grinded a bit to a halt while doing them.

Octane

Ralizah

@NEStalgia 9S has access to most of the same side-quests 2B has, so you'll have at least two playthroughs to do most of the sidequests. Same seems to be the case with two characters in C and D: they have a few unique sidequests, but they mostly share from the same pool.

@Octane Well, I'm 36 hours in and still have the last section of the game to play + 25% of the sidequests left to clear, so unless it ends up being significantly longer than I imagined I'll say 45+ for the campaign + sidequests and 25 - 30-ish for just the story.

@NEStalgia Nah. It's pretty standard length for a Japanese home console RPG. Maybe a bit on the short side these days.

@Ralizah Yeah but I wasn't expecting Automata to be a full length JRPG....based on the early parts I was expecting more or less an action game with strong JRPG elements, maybe 20-45 hours in all. This sounds like a full scale RPG which is a pleasant surprise. (ohhh my aching backlog.....)

First Sony refuses to allow PQube to localize Omega Labyrinth Z, and now they're targeting Senran Kagura. Seems like the Western divisions are going to war against anime titty games.

@Ralizah To be fair, Intimacy mode warranted scorn and ridicule. If you really want it, you can get it on Steam, along with the rest of the trash. Except you can get actual porn games on Steam now, so their Intimacy mode is even more pointless than it ever was.

Is it just me or am i distinctly getting the impression fallout 76 it's really fallout: online like tes:o and is just a spin-off, not fallout 5?

@Ralizah they're just shamed by lack of hd rumble making switch the superior version.
