Just finished the PS4 release of Jak and Daxter.

Never thought the game would run at a constant choppy rate but it happened during the final boss.

And thats...jesus.

If this is the quality of Classic titles even with such infrequent releases...then no, keep em Sony. :/

I didn't mind the frame drops, but then again I was so in love with the idea of playing my favorite childhood game again that I didn't care. Reminds me I need to buy the other games, though.

I ordered a Silver PS4 controller to go with my gold one. But wow...the Dark Steel, Midnight Blue, and see through variations are hard to pass up

@Shellcore Its weird. Even the HD Trilogies for Sly, Jak and Ratchet had issues on PS3.

Honestly if you want to replay PS1 or 2 games...original hardware.

I think this is the only time in my life Ive seen games be re released an consecutive consoles jumping significantly in spec...and somehow run worse each time.

On a fun note I booted my PS3 and replayed Sonic Generations.

Firstly I dont mind 30fps but man is it a hard drop when youre used to the same game at 60fps. You get used to it within a level or two but man...

Seconsly, the load times are horrendous as is tradition with PS3.

Third...wow. this is night and day from Sonic Forces in level design.

Where'smy PS4 release of this game? XD

I seem to remember Sly trilogy being fine on Vita.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Hey, as a casual Playstation user, do you think I should buy into Shadow of the Colossus remastered? I have never played the game, though I heard it was fantastic. Wondering whether I should buy the original on the store or the new one.

It's really weird having a Playstation, I am into almost no multiplats so my PS4 game completion list has only been the Last Of Us and Persona 5. Monster Hunter World seems cool but I want to finish up other games that takes hours (Xenoblade 2). Honestly I only really bought the PS4 during black friday 2016 because of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3

People might think I'm childish for my picture, and I am.

@ieatdragonz I think it's good, it's one of my favourite games of all time, and there's a reason why it's often on the best games of all time lists. It's definitely one of those games everyone needs to play at least once I think. But you know, some people don't like Ocarina of Time either, so it's not a given you'll like the game. Anyway, the remake is completely built from scratch, and they adjusted the controls, so it plays a bit better than the original (though I believe there's an option to play it with the 'classic' controls). That's one reason to pick the remake over the original or the remaster. And it's only $40.

@Dezzy The Jak trilogy wasnt. Good god.

It was better on PS3 but had some issues. The Sly trilogy on PS3 also had some...bugs, that are a bit odd.

The Ratchet trilogy fared worst though. Good god. Animations are off, bugs, R&C3 has sounds play out of place for the ship, and enemy behaviours are borked, even leading to scripted cutscenes like in the Momma Tyhrranoid fight being...totally wrong.

So yeah, with each successive system these games get worse.

You can get away with playing Jak and Sly on PS3, but original hardware is still smoother and less buggy. Dont play Jak on PS4 if you can help it, and the Ratchet Trilogy, mostly 3, is an original hardware thing.

@ieatdragonz Get the remake of SotC. It's a completely rebuilt version of one of the PS2's most famous games, and, from footage I've seen, it looks absolutely gorgeous. Also, the pricing is extremely reasonable.

@Octane @Ralizah So we are calling this new one the remake, and the one on PS3 the remaster? Honestly that was a bit confusing reading your replies haha. Guess Feburary will be the month of old games for me (I'm also getting Bayonetta 1+2 and the original counts as old now!). Thanks for the information that it was 40, I honestly didn't know that, and you're right that is reasonable! Wish Nintendo would do the same for Tropical Freeze but thats a whole notha' story.

@ieatdragonz Yes, it's a remake. The PS3 version was a remaster (i.e. a port with increased resolution and higher quality textures). The PS4 is a remake, it's completely built from scratch, mimicking the original game, but in a modern engine. Compare any screenshots of the three versions and you'll see that this one stands out. There's a lot more foliage, wildlife, it's just prettier to look at in general.

And the controls are also improved, or at least, they offer a new control scheme. I assume it's better. I haven't tried it yet, I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive.

So this may be a weird question but here me out.

As someone who has never played Shadow of the Colossus, nor am I terribly looking forward to forming an opinion on it because everyone will likely jump down my throat if I don't love it to death, I have question.

Everyone talks about the awesome fights with the Colossi things, and that's all well and good. From what I see you get close, find a way to climb it, follow the path, attack, rinse and repeat until dead. Then you go to the next one.

My question is this: Everyone talks about how thematically great and visually stunning they are, how involved are they gameplay wise? Are they just like Uncharted climbing QTEs, glorified linear paths with the illusion of a trial to climb them? Is there even a penalty for not damaging them/failing to climb them? Can you even fail to climb them? I've never seen footage of anything but someone successfully climbing one, whacking it, moves on.

And then my smaller second question, as noted all I see are talks about the former subject....what exactly do you do for the other part of the game, you know, the bits where you aren't doing the parts everyone talks about? Is there a reason no one brings the other 60% or so of this game up?

@YummyHappyPills The gameplay can be reduced to two things:
1) Finding colossi
2) Killing colossi

Finding them involves following a beam of sunlight that reflects off of your sword (this tells you the general direction you need to go to close in on a colossus) as you navigate a barren and blasted landscape. Think BotW if you had to ride a horse the entire time and there was no way to really interact with the environment at all (and if it were MUCH less lush and filled with scenery).

There are no QTEs in the boss fights. The fights are more like puzzles than anything, as you have to figure out how exactly to damage a colossus (stabbing them just anywhere does nothing) and, as the game goes on, how to even reach them in the first place (they might be located high up where you can't reach them, or they might be swimming in sand, or flying in the air, and in those cases, you have to figure out a way to bring them to your level so you can mount and kill them). They're like boss fights from Ocarina of TIme, but way more elaborate.

You can absolutely fail when climbing a colossus (unless something has changed in the remake), as Wander has a stamina gauge that constantly depletes as he's climbing on stuff. With the way these enormous beasts try to shake you off, expect to spend a lot of time falling off of them.

@Ralizah So when people discuss Shadow of the Colossus, really they are discussing the half of the game they remember fondly. Good to know. From what I've been told the other half is an empty wasteland of nothingness.

Also...Wander? Is that the official name because if so, this studio has got issues with making a story worth investing in, between frustrating execution in TLG, to dumb names and borderline no game for half of SOTC.

@YummyHappyPills Yeah, you can fail. There's a stamina bar and there's fall damage. The colossi can also attack you, though some are more passive, while others are more aggressive. Not all of them are gigantic either, some are small and you don't really have to climb them. Those battles play more like traditional boss battles.

The rest of the game is looking for the colossi. There's also a bit of exploration. You hunt down lizards for stamina upgrades and you find fruit for health upgrades. The game is about fighting the colossi though, and the traveling in between allows for some breathing room. It's a stylistic choice, as it serves a stark contrast to the battles themselves.

Octane

Ralizah

@YummyHappyPills As I recall, you can find lizards near the shrines dotted around the landscape. If you kill them and eat their tails, you can boost your stamina. I believe there are also fruit trees that help boost your health bar. That's... about it in terms of stuff to do outside of finding and killing colossi.

It's not really an open world game in the sense that you're meant to explore your environment. It's a boss rush that punctuates each fight with some travelling, so the barrenness of the landscape isn't a huge issue.

Shadow of the Colossus has more than a dozen language options. I mean, it's great, but why?

Just finished the 8th Colossus, and im loving this game. Its insanely fun and it looks beautiful.

On another note I got Persona 5 and started it last night. I love the aesthetic so much, and the Battle system is great so far.

Not regretting my Ps4 purchase whatsoever.

I dont think I could play Persona 5.

The UI looks like it was designed by the Zodiac killer and all the random fonts for each letter is obnoxiously hard to read amongst all the red as Im as you know colour blind XD
