swap Mario Kart 7 for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, online for local multiplayer and Tracks for Quests and I'll agree 99999% instead of just a little
I mean I'll agree with Gioku if those changes are made.

Super Mario 64 DS = I never played the N64 original, but if this port was in any way representative of it, then I feel I've dodged a bullet. Clunky controls, a horrible camera, unimaginative game design.. yeah, I can say I enjoyed nothing about this game.

Kingdom Hearts = Awful, awful combat and a weird, nonsensical story make this one a stinker. I still want to like it, and retry it every once in a while, only to toss the controller back down after I remember why I disliked it so much in the first place. Good music, though.

Final Fantasy XIII = THIS was a huge disappointment, especially considering how much I loved XII. The game is as linear as one of those corridor shooters, the battle system pretty much plays itself, and the characters all feel obnoxious and generic. It's barely even an RPG.

And I don't know if I would call it disappointing, but Ocarina of Time, as it turns out, is way, way overrated.

This is the only thing in this thread I can really agree with. Though I was not disappointed by OoT, it was by no means the best game I've ever played.

It was OK. Decent game. I've played several LoZ games that I feel are superior, though.

I don't play online much. I just stick to MKWII. MK7 wasn't bad. I'm hoping MK8 will be the best one yet.

the switch is pretty cool.

Oh yeah, Mario Kart 7 I wasn't expecting to be the best but despite really liking the courses, it was almost City Folk levels of "what was the point of getting this?" It was just other Mario Karts but with less features for some reason (except a worse version of gliding from Air Ride).

I anticipated this game so much, thinking "RPG, Fighter, Beat-em-up? Sounds like a recipe for success". I remember saying "this is my most anticipated game of the year". But really, it's not worth the hype.
The characters are slow to control, that when it's imputed, I don't need it anymore.
Like other beat-em-ups, this one has the issue of being repetitious.
But the online mode disappointed me the most.
They advertised the game as "50 characters to play as". But in actuality, most of them are useless to play as, because they don't have variety in moves.
The online is almost unplayable as well. Due to the character inputs being slow, and that online is slow in general.
I think that game is now $20 in the eShop. And that price is alot more appropriate. Because the game looks great, the game sounds great. The voice acting is great too. But to pay $40 for this is too much.

Ya it got old pretty fast.

I didn't play the game but Mortal Kombat Advance let many disappointed, if you loved Mortal Kombat 3 and wanted a portable version, it wouldn't be this version.

I don't have too many disappointing experiences with video games because I tend to study up on things before purchasing, but one of the more recent disappointing experiences I can recall is Pandora's Tower. I fell for the Operation Rainfall hype and really got behind that game. When the news broke that it was being localized, I was pretty stoked. Put my pre-order down. Got the game and... I think I played it for about 15 minutes before getting bored. It wasn't bad. It was just meh, and I've got above-meh games in my backlog that I could be playing instead.

Another one that I never actually played but was nonetheless disappointing was Aliens: Colonial Marines. Aliens is one of my favorite movies ever and that was one of my most anticipated games. I was following that right up until the s***storm of reviews started rolling in, and all of my hopes and dreams were ruined. The consolation prize was some funny YouTube vids of how much that game fails.

CanisWolfred wrote:

Anyways...probably Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. I read a review that said it was a great action RPG, and being new to reviews at the time, I took his word for it.

It was awful. The story was a mess, the cutscenes were way too long, the voice acting sucked, the characters had no facial expressions, the characters were mostly cliche and boring, some were even annoying...

You have no soul, Fayt was a good character 'cuz absent parents and in a group with strangers, etc, etc.

Well, I guess I have to post mine too. Pokémon Mystery Dungoen: Gates To Infinity was a big disappointment! I was so hyped for the game, considering that I highly enjoyed the previous one. The game had very easy bosses and dungoens, the game is too short, they used the same enemies in every dungoen and rarely added new ones, the story and the characters aren't deep as the one in the previous one, the same "the Pokémons are bieng greed and mean which will cause the world crisis" story again, no extra story after completing the game, no legendary battles except for Kyurem which wasn't even that challenging. But the game had some positive signs like the battle system, building your paradise and the multiplayer missions, but overall, the game was a big disappointment.

I was disappointed in GTA IV. I never really had an expectations (other than knowing it's the highest rated game of the generation via Metacritic), but then again, I rarely ever have expectations for games. I just go in with an open mind.

Half Life. I actually played the Black Mesa mod which bumps visuals, level design and enemy intelligence, but I still found it dreary. The opening in the office block was interesting but I couldn't escape the feeling that the game was trying so hard to disguise the fact that its level design was a straight line. I didn't mind the lack of branching paths but the fact that you needed to crawl around so many rooms became tedious. And then the tunnels! I was in those dark tunnels for hours! I didn't feel like I was making any progress because each successive level felt so similar to the previous one. By the time I finally got to Surface Tension I was too tired to keep going on.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

Paper Mario: Sicker Star - No plot, horrible sticker mechanic, completely forgettable cast... yeah. The thing is, they did this on the notion that a handheld game should be less story-intensive and more pick-up-and-play. Which would be a cute notion. If it didn't entirely ignore the fact that the Mario & Luigi series have been pulling off great handheld RPGs with great storylines and characters for the past ten years. So yeah, no.

Mario Kart Wii - Ugh. Throw 4 extra racers on the track and don't sort out the item distribution. Throw in a bunch of new irritating hit-all weapons for the 4 racers at the back who'll spawn them three times a lap. Forget trying to beat this game in single player legitimately. Strap on a blindfold, hold down the accelerator and pray you win. It's about as effective a tactic as any other. And even by Wii standards, this game is pretty ugly to look at, with a bland whitewashed interface that was endemic of first-party Wii games for a while.

Sonic 4: Episode I & II - Unlike the rest of the internet, I don't hate Sonic 4. I thought it was pretty good. But no better than 'pretty good.' It was a distinctly passable and quickly forgettable experience that captured almost none of the magic of the originals. Episode II was definitely a better stab, but it still didn't quite hit the mark.

Sonic Generations (3DS) - Sonic Generations on PC is fantastic. And I do generally legitimately like the Dimps handheld games (excusing some questionable level design. So I was hoping the 3DS port of Generations would be pretty decent. Not really - short, forgettable, occasionally frustrating, utterly tedious experience. Mushroom Hill Zone was nice though, at least.

Shadow the Hedgehog - Yikes.

Maple Story - This is going back a few years - a friend convinced me to get into the magical fun-filled world of MMORPGs and make some friends, at a time when I really wasn't making a whole lot of friends. And Maple Story's cartoony, sprite-based aesthetic really appealed to me. I have never been more bored in my life, and opted to find some real people instead which turned out to be a much better decision. Sometimes I think I may have dodged a bullet there.

Xenoblade Chronicals - CONTROVERSY ALERT! No, let me just say, I adored what I played of Xenoblade Chronicals. The disappointment does not lie with the game itself. This is a straight 10 / 10 experience and if you like RPGs then you must play it. Enough beating that well-worn drum though. My disappointment with Xenoblade is that I just can't progress past a certain point. It's not that it gets too hard, it's just that I completely lose the will to continue playing it. And I'm not sure why. But three times I've got to roughly the same point and lose all interest in playing further. I can only describe it as feeling like I'm wading through treacle. After a while, I'm just too tired to continue. Will I finish it one day? Maybe. But it's just a bit too stodgy for me to digest. I guess I'm not much of an RPG player.

Nice try, but I never said Fayt was the annoying one. The girl he was with, and the little alien with the ax were the annoying ones. Fayt was the only one I could relate to since he was just as confused by everything as I was.

The dude from Star Ocean 4 was the annoying main protagonist. The only thing the game got wrong that Star Ocean 3 did right (seeing as that was the only thing Star Ocean 3 did right).

Super Mario Galaxy 2- a worse "sequel" to an already lackluster game. I liked the look of the game, but the controls are nearly unplayable
Metroid Prime 3-a dark/dreary uninspired world that tried to coast off the success of the previous titles. Too linear, i didn't like the controls, and for some reason they kept throwing the hunters in there as if i care about them
Twilight Princess- took waaaaay too long to even get to the first dungeon, hated the over done "dark" art style, the wolf segments were boring and ugly to look at, especially when you have to go get those dumb bugs. And I cant stand those useless annoying little kids. Some items were used very little like the spinner, even though it was cool it was completely useless in everywhere but the dungeon. Worst of all the over world was empty, and about 4 times too big. It was the second 3D Zelda i played right after OOT, and i think its good, but definitely disappointing.

Metroid Prime - I'm not sure why this game is so highly regarded aside from the fact of it establishing 3D Metroid, which basically would make this a nostalgic game rather than a title that has held up on the quality side. My main issue with Metroid Prime is that it is very inconsistent atmospherically. Locations that have a solid association to the Space Pirates' operations on Tallon IV easily overshadow the level of atmosphere found beyond those locations. While it has some really good atmospheric highs, I feel it has the least memorable atmosphere of nearly all Metroid games in a lot of its locations. What makes that worse is that Metroid Prime, with the scanning feature, should not be leaving such a low impression of atmosphere since it has a mechanic to boost the identity of all of its locations. Outside of its atmospheric inconsistency, I don't feel Metroid Prime became a great game until 7 years after its first release. I felt it was designed for something beyond the Gamecube, as it never played quite right on that console, and the Wii proved that to me in 2009. Still, I feel that Metroid Prime along with the rest of the Prime Trilogy are games too reliant on their lock-on mechanics to cover up the controls inability to really give a player much accuracy with free aiming.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Originally, I was really disappointed by the original Super Mario Galaxy. It wasn't until 2009 that I was finally turning around on that game, and found it to be one of the best Mario experiences. A part of that turn around was because of the story involving Rosalina and the Lumas, so when the news of a Super Mario Galaxy 2 surfaced a part of me was excited to learn even more about this awesome princess. I eventually get the game and realize that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is stripped of spirit. The whole time I played the sequel, I felt that I was playing an empty experience. While Galaxy 2 shared the original's gameplay, it failed in terms of presentation. Instead of going to distant galaxies set on orbits, we're now going to galaxies set on a bland route path set across a random space-y background. Instead of being at a Comet Observatory with Rosalina and the Lumas, we're stuck on an egotistical, empty planetoid with a Luma that's eaten one too many star bits. In the end, Galaxy 2 offered a shallow follow up that focused too much on gameplay to allow much quality in any other aspect.
