This gen I twinned my Wii with a 360 to cover all bases. I've never been a particular fan of Sony - the Playstations haven’t had exclusive software that interests me and Sony always seemed to place style over substance. I got a PS2 last year for 20quid to play ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, and last week I inherited a PS3 with a broken disc drive to play Journey and Flower. Although I still prefer the 360 pad to the Dualshock, the PS3 is (now) quite a nice bit of kit.
My 3DS is flying at the moment, and I’ll probably get a Wii U at the end of the year but I’m going to be in the same position as last time when the next systems hit. I recommended my favourite 360 games on the forums and realised that they are all multiplat games. All the old Rareware staff have left Rare now and there’s nothing attracting me to MS. Since PS4 was announced I’ve been impressed and although Durango is still under wraps for a couple of weeks, everything I’ve heard about perma-online and 2nd-hand lockout is making me consider switching to Sony once the PS4 has had a year or two to bed in.
Is anybody else in a similar position? What will it take for Durango to tempt you back to MS?

I actually flip flopped with MS and Sony as my other system. I always had a Nintendo system but during the Gamecube era I went with the PS2 over the Xbox. This last gen I went with the Xbox 360 over the PS3. For me its price, and games (exclusives and non exlcusives) that makes me choose the one over the other. So far I haven't really made a decision yet since I haven't heard of a price for either of them.

How much would the price make a difference? If the PS4 is £50 more expensive, would that dissuade you?

I still think its too early to make any decision since we know nothing officially about the Durango and know very little about the PS4.

PS3 has become the gamer's system while 360 became the Kinect dancing and Minecraft system. Microsoft has no games anymore. Halo is not enough to get me to buy their next system.

I've had a lot of fun with my 360, but I won't be getting the next version of the XBOX.

Of course, considering the PS4 isn't backwards-compatible and there are many PS3 games I'd like to play, I don't know when I'll ever get the newest playstation.

Unless The Last Guardian comes out for PS4, in which case my hands are tied...

It depends on the price difference really and what it all has to offer. I mean if its 100 or 200 hundred dollar difference and all the major difference is a Blu-ray player well than I will pass. As someone said at this point its too early to tell without all the details I will need a bit more before I make my final decision.

Stop just stop right there. Nice bit of trolling there but just leave the thread alone if you dont have anything to add to the conversation. Yeah as an Xbox 360 owner thats all I play are Kinect dance games and Minecraft. Freakin idiot. Just to show you I have never played a Kinect game nor will I ever and I hate Minecraft. So I guess PS3 is just for the Move according to your logic.

I went with a 360 and a Wii last gen, and I was really happy with it, having previously had a PS2. I don't mind waiting to play games, not one of those people that has to get everything on release and play it immediately.

I'm waiting to see just how the backwards compatibility is going to work on PS4. If they have the games I want available for streaming/downloading then I'll probably pick up a PS4 fairly early on, to play the PS3 games primarily. A lot of what I want is part of the upscaled PS2 collections though, and I have no idea if they'll consider those important enough to have available. If you can't play them, I'll just pick up a cheap PS3 next January. In the immediate aftermath of the PS4 launch, and with console sales low after the Christmas boom, should be able to get a bargain.

Stuff I want on PS3:

God of War HD Collection
God of War 3
Metal Gear Solid (PSN)
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Metal Gear Solid 4
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection
Uncharted
Uncharted 2
Uncharted 3
InFamous
InFamous 2
Heavy Rain
Valkyria Chronicles
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Disgaea 3

I'm kind of in the mindset that I won't be able to play most of these on a PS4 so I'll probably not get either next gen console for a long, long time while I plough my way through a huge backlog and the PS3 games.

I pretend to have brand loyalty, but it all comes down to the games. Sony made my first game console, so I suppose my subconscious would lean toward that if they carry the same games. If Microsoft would want to tempt me back they'd need to have a very powerful console for pretty cheap (price & power, always a factor), but it'd still need a must-buy game that I must have.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

I've usually always gone Nintendo and Sony, but I've come to realize that Nintendo and Microsoft are my go to combo. If you think about it, Nintendo had motion out on the market first which gave them the advantage whether you think so or not, then Microsoft and Sony came out with their own forms of motion control.
Microsoft has a better camera for full body motion control vs. PS Eye and can't really compete against Nintendo, Nintendo has the remote thing down, and Sony has added a mixture of both(remote and camera) which do not measure up to either one IMO.
PS3 was only a little bit more powerful than Xbox 360 in terms of graphics, but it didn't really matter in the end, because that whole HD gen was basically built around the core experience Xbox 360's offerings.
I got rid of my Xbox 360 over PS3, soley because of bluray, free internet, and multiple options you can do in the settings that make it overall more custom.
Things have changed, and bluray is the better thing to go for right now IMO, but a new gen is approaching for Xbox and PS4, which supposedly will both have bluray, and it makes sense. So PS3 was literally the best console last gen, but it wasn't worth it based on what was actually shown, and how they handled the motion control front.
I want the best motion control remote, and best camera reader, but not the mix that PS has brought, at least how they have done it.
I think Sony jumps the gun, and it's better for the short term, but not the long term.

Too early to tell.

We still know virtually nothing about the PS4 and literally nothing about Microsoft's next system.

I'll be bowing out the general console races. This is likely my first time since the Atari VCS era that I haven't owned all the consoles during a particular race. Not because I believe there isn't noteworthy products on all the consoles (Because there is - always), but my spare time has become far to limited to justify owning all three home, in addition to portables.
