that computer passes the minimum requirements for CPU and RAM, as well as OS... the only thing that could stop you from playing Mirror's Edge would be the graphics card...

this is the pre-holiday and I'm already broke lol, bought Section 8 on Gamer's Gate and will probably be buying Mirror's Edge from Steam... any comments about it before the sale ends? lol

@Terranigma take the chance, for $4.99 it wouldn't be a big loss if you end up needing to buy a Graphics Card to play it... the Radeon HD 4k family is very cheap now...

of course, I'll help

well, if you can get the 360 version, by all means get it, specially if it's the same price... I don't get the 360 version because there's a big price difference for me ($90 on PS3, $45 on 360 and $5 for PC lol, those are my options)

The only reason I'm not getting the THQ pack is because I can't afford it at the moment lol, my CC credit left is less than $5 (that's why all I can buy is $15 or less games lol, CCs are weird...)

All I can say is that Red Faction: Guerrilla is very good, an awesome game indeed, I'm loving every bit of it... and is well worth full price, and seeing it's included in the $50 THQ pack, is hard to advise against getting it lol

Is that a single core?
You're going to also want more RAM, 2GB total system RAM is usually sufficient.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Here are my Vista Specs

Windows Vista Home Basic Edition
Service Pack 2

Manufacturer: EI System
Processor: Intel (R) Celeron (R) CPU 420 @ 1.60GHZ 1.60GHz
Memory (RAM): 512MB
System Type: 32-bit Operating System

There's not much to do with that processor... Celeron is the name Intel gives to the cheap version of their CPU... depending on the manufacture year, it could be an Pentium 4 or a Core 2 Duo based CPU...it would be advisable to upgrade to the "powerful" version in either case, since they are very cheap now, but a CPU upgrade is the most difficult and risky ugprade of them all, so it's better to leave it for last (if at all, most times is better to get new components instead of upgrading just the CPU)

You'll want more RAM too, as much as possible, and that depends on both the CPU and the Motherboard, as well as the OS... given that you currently have a 32-bit OS, you shouldn't put more than 4 GB of RAM, since the system won't use more than 3.75 or less...

Info about your motherboard would be useful... I'm guessing you don't have a dedicated graphics cards, so chances are, you are running either an Intel or VIA integrated GPU (They are very crappy), so you'll want a new GPU too... a medium-market Radeon HD 4650 or 5650 should do the trick for just around $100 or less... you can go up to the Radeon HD 5750 and similar before needing to check the Power Suply Unit (PSU) for capacity to handle the load.

PS: If you could please download CPU-Z (www.cpuid.com) and post screenshots of each tab (see my example) it would help a lot
CPU: http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff16/DarkPGR/CPU.png
GPU: http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff16/DarkPGR/GPU.png
Mobo: http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff16/DarkPGR/Mobo.png
Memory: http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff16/DarkPGR/Memory.png

Something like that would give us all the info on what can be upgraded =)

Dark G, do you know anything about installing a new GPU on a laptop? My Intel card is sucking on these new games, strangely not FEAR 2...

Most laptops don't have enough room for a dedicated laptop GPU... most of the time, if the laptop didn't come with a dedicated GPU, it's stuck with that... I know that's the case with my Dell Inspiron 1520, the dedicated GPU-less version of it lacks enough space for a dedicated GPU...

if it DOES have space, it will be very specific of your laptop on how to install it... most of the time, the manufacturer has info on how to do it (it usually isn't an easy task, specially when putting the thing back together again)

I thought so.

1. an Intel 945G... not too bad (could be worse, honestly), but not too good either... it will run some games at low setting quite good (in fact, with modified driver, the performance increases slightly), a dedicated GPU would be a must to upgrade this PC

2. AS I said before, is a cheap version of another Intel CPU... in this case, it looks like youve'got a cheap Core 2 Duo with a single core, you could upgrade up to a Core 2 Quad depending on your motherboard

3. Cache doesn't say much, other than confirm that the performance increase by changing to a Core 2 Duo or Quad processor would be very substantial

4. According to your motherboard specs (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_spec.aspx?ID=en-us0000315) there are some good upgrades you can do to your PC... according to Foxconn it is compatible with Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme but not Core 2 Quad... it should work, but it's better to trust the manufacturer and play it safe, a Core 2 Extreme would be your best upgrade, and a Core 2 Duo the best bang for your buck

5. With a pair of 800 MHz DDR2 2 GB Memory modules you will see a HUGE performance upgrade, and best of all, you can do it for less than $100 depending on the brand you get

6. SPD doesn't tell much, other than you are using your RAM modules at their max speed (SPD-wise) they might be able to be overclocked, but it isn't advisable.

If you have a budget to upgrade this PC, and you tell me where you are from (and if you want to get up to the task of installing the upgrades yourself) I could get you some links with some of the best options to upgrade.

PS: You can upgrade the Memory, GPU and HDD if you know how to use a screwdriver, for Mobo and CPU upgrades, you'll need to be extra careful when palcing the CPU, but other than that, the screwdriver knowledge requirement is a must lol

Choosing between the two CPUs is up to your pocket lol, one is faster than the other and the price isn't much of a difference, so it really is up to what you can afford

I suggest only that memory kit for three reasons... one, being the heat dissipation it has, two because of it's very good price, and three because I have a kit like that too (the 1066 MHz version of it) and they have been very good so far..

Likewise, GPU is up to your pocket too, they all have 1 GB GDDR5 except the HD5970 which is a beast of a card with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory onboard lol, price-wise, the HD 5770 is a better deal because not only the extra performance, but because of the bundled Limite Edition game that comes with the HD 5770. They are all DirectX 11 cards too (Windows 7 Ultimate ready)
