Topic: Steam Box?

SUPPOSEDLY, Steam is entering the Video Game Console compitition.I don't know much about Steam, but supposedly, it will be able to play PC games(nothing new there) 8GB memory, and the possibility of having a PC customizable mouse. So far, nothing a laptop couldnt do. If it truly exists, it should be announced at GDC 2012, next week. I have some doubts though.

1. Time. Right now is the worst possible time to enter the gaming community. Yes, a lot of people are gaming, but the 3 major companies (Nintendo, PlayStation, and Microsoft) all either have a strong current console, a new console builing steam, or will release a new console within the next 1-2 years, and we're talking good consoles(DONT quote me on that)powerful, HD, all you want. There's the Xbox 720, PS4, PSVita, 3DS, Wii U, and I don't think there's room for a Steam Box.
2. Why Box? Why MUST it be a "Box?" The Xbox is the most powerful console on the market, a lot of people like the GameCUBE, why another "Box?"
3. I believe only 1 website has leaked this info so far. How come? I could be wrong, but that is all I've heard. I forgeet which website it was.
4. Although the basic hardware specs seem signifigant, it cold still be a trick. I hear they would plan on a new console every 3-4yrs.
5.It is said you can load Origins onto it, something Steam hasn't allowed yet.

If it exists, so far it isn't looking good, and I wouldn't buy it. So what's your opinion? Is it real? Would you buy it? What do you want on it?
