"It's unclear what Media Molecule is working on currently. While some had assumed a Little Big Planet sequel would be in the works, Media Molecule level designer Danny Leaver last year said that the studio would never want to do such a project for fear it would undermine the original game's existing community." http://www.gamespot.com/news/6239341.html

Do they really have a choice now that they're owned by Sony? They say that now, but just wait.

An organisation, once acquired, does not become a bunch of slaves under the draconian new owner's whip. They'll still have input into their output. The whole reason Sony acquired them was for their skills and talents, not to then ignore them and start dictating. Business doesn't really work like that
I'm sure there will be a spin-off or sequel to LittleBigPlanet though. It would be crazy, business-wise, not to.
They've made it clear that they plan to expand the game rather than sequelize it. I'm sure come Playstation 4 there'll be a sequel for the new platform as there was for the PSP, but as the PS3 lives on, it seems pointless. What would they do that they couldn't do through DLC? The paintinator expansion was great. I don't know if the water one ever came out since I no longer own the game or follow it, but it seemed promising.
I expect they'll continue this approach while hopefully spending their time and efforts on creating similar experiences for other genres instead of cashing in on what they've already done. Mod Nation looks very much like something they could have done. I'd be very interested to see Media Modecule take on the shoot em up or another traditional stage-based genre.

Actually you are wrong Waltz.... Microsoft is notorious for forcing their owned developers to create what Microsoft wants them to create. EA is another bigwheel that has done the same thing time over and over. Bizarre Creation (Project Gotham Series), Bungie and others that are, well most now were, exclusive to Microsft have complained over and over about Microsoft/EA undermining their creativity, and being forced to develop what they want or loose funding.
Media Molecule Im sure will definately bring LBP to PS4 like Adam said but a rehash over and over killing the franchise will not happen, they have stated this over and over. Sony is one of the few companies that will fund and let the developers create to their ideas. They are notorious for it wich is why the influx of so much 3rd Party hits the Playstation systems.
