According to the site, North America will not receive any Playstation 3 bundle. Now I know that I don't need a bundle game to start enjoying a console, but considering that there will probably be a Uncharted 2: Among Theives bundle in Europe, along with a rumored Assassin Creed 2 and Gran Turismo 5 bundle, and that Nintendo already has a Wii Sport bundle with the Wii, if this is true and the European bundle are just $50 more then the stand-alone, Sony of America has officiallly screwed it's potential customers for the holiday.
No North America bundle + European receiving a bundled game = No PS3 for me this holiday. And that is dead serious. Sure I know I'm missing out on a lot of great holiday games that won't be on the Wii or if so, better on the PS3, but the Wii has great games too. And beside, I know how my list is going to be if I'm just getting more Wii games. And beside, my family is having money issues, so that would be a wise economic choice for me.
lol, Sony and their stupid choices... the PS3 Slim is a ripoff anyway, specially considering the discounted prices of the nomal PS3... they aren't going to sell that many here either, at $200 more expensive than the 250 GB MW2 Xbox 360 bundle they have nothing to fight back in the Colombian market... they really need to get their act together, and stop making mistake after mistake...

wouldn't be surprised to hear that he hadn't already done so at this point. after all, it is earth-shatteringly terrible news. e_e;;

LOL, so you've spent a month or so talking about the awesomeness of the PS3 and that you're moving on this Christmas, just to change your mind because previously unannounced bundles may come to Europe? I love it.
Couldn't care less about missing out on a bundle. I'll just buy the game seperately when the price comes down, should I ever feel like playing Uncharted 2. There are plenty of other PS3 games I'd like to play first when I actually get one of the systems. And $300 for a system that is 1/3 smaller and quieter than the fat version is a great deal and I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on one of them later this year.

It is, specially with the almost simultaneous announcement of SE abandoning the Memory Stick format, to fully adopt and take advantage of the SD format (both the Memory Stick PRO Duo and the SD formats where developed by SanDisk, the MSPD was an enhancement to Sony's format to make it more competitive with the SD)

tbh PSP Go owns....the only better handheld display is the ZuneHD, and PSP Go! is cheaper than iPod touch, has a lot more media functionality, and a ton more [EDIT: good, full, well-controlled] games available...I see exactly what they're going for. Hopefully they'll target the iPod crowd heavily with their ads, cause from what the PSN store has been showing in terms of digital PSP offerings, there are gonna be a lot of very economically priced releases available at launch. I for one understand where Sony is going and think that, if they play this right, they're about to gain some serious ground. PS3 slim announcement seems to have pretty successfully up-ended the tables...the momentum is pretty crazy.
You're misinterpreting, and so is "Gadget Review", whoever they are. Evidence was found that a 250 GB model existed thanks to FCC records - that's an American government agency. Then images were leaked of the 250 GB in a bundle. So they contacted SCEA - the American branch of Sony. They dismissed rumours of the 250 GB console bundle. That doesn't mean it's coming out in Europe. That means no-one bothered to contact the Euro branches of Sony because the original leak was the legal docs filed with an American government agency.

come again? A 120 GB slimmer, 50-70% less power-consuming console for $299 is a rip-off because they're now selling an 80 GB power-guzzling model for the same price?

slimmer with same HDD physical format = more heat and, the Slim has less features than the old PS3 model... if it's an improved model, why do they take out features, without replacing them with others? even worse, they remove features for no reason at all!
PS: did you know you can use any laptop HDD with the PS3, right?, so the bigger HDD isn't that much of a problem... sell the included one, and get a 500 GB one if you want (and need) that much...

What fewer features does the Slim have? Only the ability to install Linux. Do you have Linux installed? What do you use it for?
And a bird in the hand is better than one in the bush. I'm pretty sure that means that getting a 120 GB PS3 for $299 is better than getting an 80 GB PS3 for $299 and then buying a larger HDD to install in it for another $150 on top of that.

less heat from the electronic components (not necessarily true, but whatever), the HDD will still output the same heat and use the same power, since it's the same kind of HDD... if the GPU didn't get a shrink too, it will take the same power and produce the same heat too... I think the only component that was shrinked was the CPU, but I don't remember if the GPU too...
according to some videos here and there, the Slim is actually slower loading games.... the PS3 was already the slowest console as it was, and now it's even slower?...
and yes, I care the most about the Linux install, because I do have YDL installed on my 80 GB PS3... and there's absolutely NO reason for Sony to take that out of the Slim... that block is software wise, not hardware, so is just Sony's stupidity and stubbornness...
with the lack of very good and worthy games, and the insane prices Sony charges here, it's one of the few things that keeps me from selling that thing to be honest... that and the fact that it's my only Blu-Ray player (for now)...

I asked what you use Linux for. You haven't answered.
multimedia server, and some programming (mostly playing with cell homebrew code lol)... that's the most useful function of the PS3, and due to the low amount of quality exclusives, one fo the only reasons to keep it... specially now since Sony shoot themselves in the foot removing it from the Slim...

Why do you need a multimedia server? What are you using it for that the PS3 can't do? If you're coding for PS3, then aren't you supposed to pay for a dev kit and license?
The reasons are simple: The PS3 Slim is a major cost reduction involving many changes to hardware components in the PS3 design. In order to offer the OtherOS install, SCE would need to continue to maintain the OtherOS hypervisor drivers for any significant hardware changes - this costs SCE. One of our key objectives with the new model is to pass on cost savings to the consumer with a lower retail price. Unfortunately in this case the cost of OtherOS install did not fit with the wider objective to offer a lower cost PS3.
