Looks awesome! I'm not sure whether i'll be able to buy it though. Too many good games coming out in 2010.

@Machu: Are you considering it at all?

I'm not filled with hope or excitement for this one. It boils down to the usual question I'm afraid... 'will it be better than Mario Kart?'. If the answer is yes, then I will happily swallow my pride and join in the fun. If not, then I'll just carry on playing Mario Kart.

I'll get back to you once I have read the first batch of reviews, but I imagine that will be too late for ya. If I were you, I'd test the water and go with which ever version is most popular on NL. wii, in theory :/

I just looked on the Wikipedia page, and I scrolled down to the exclusive characters; here's what I saw:
Console exclusive characters

  • Banjo and Kazooie from the Banjo-Kazooie series (Xbox 360)
    • Avatars (Xbox 360)
    • Miis (Wii)
    • BanjoConkers (Wii)
    • Zool

What the crap?

Taken from a new thread I made because I didn't see this one (thanks to TBD for linking me this one with the lock):

Not that this should surprise anyone, but it's pretty much been confirmed by the developers that Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing won't have DLC on Wii. Reasons cited were storage limitations and the fact that they haven't even built an in-game DLC store. Source here.

That would seem to indicate that no as-yet-unannounced characters will be able to make it into the Wii version of the game. Does this change anyone's plans on what system to get this for? I was planning PS3 all along (don't care too much about Banjo and can't afford to renew my Live Gold to play online), if I can scrape up the money for the game at all.

Played the demo on 360.

Terrible handling and frame rate.

I think the wii version has the potential to be the best one if its simpified but with a better frame rate. just like superstar tennis was better.

@Stuffgamer1: You just confirm that I will automatically boycott this game, due to being an downgraded version. I do NOT accept downgraded versions, so I will happily be skipping this. I'll laugh once they realize that Sonic = profit on Wii.

@SSBFan: Why not just get the DS version? It wasn't gonna have DLC anyway...... Handhelds never do, they can't as of now.

Also,

So basically, you only buy exclusives? Most multiplat games on the Wii are downgrades, with the exception of Guitar Hero.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

@outrun2sp: I thought most people thought SEGA Superstars Tennis was crap on Wii? I dunno...but I sure like it on 360.

Anyway, I expect ASR to be better on PS3 than 360. After all, the developers said it was programmed for PS3 and ported to 360. We all know what kinds of problems THAT kind of crap can cause...moreso in reverse (360 ported to PS3), but still...

@SSBF: Did you read the linked article? It's not like it's necessarily Sumo/SEGA's fault there's no DLC on Wii; Nintendo just designed a console that is extremely unfriendly to the addition of DLC! So I'd blame them for this, not the makers of any particular game.

@RandomWiiPlayer: I don't just buy exclusives, there are a few out there that I believe justify a purchase on the Wii or is the best on the Wii (Sonic Unleashed and Tiger Wood PGA Tour 10 are examples), but for the most part, yeah, I'll only be doing exclusives on the Wii. I'll really start getting into multiplatform games once I get an Playstation 3. And I do not make exceptions with handhelds. Maybe there might be a silm chance I MIGHT buy the Wii version, but if ONLY that version proves to be the best version, which is probably impossible to do now, but then again, Sonic Unleashed on Wii was missing a few things but that turned out to be the best version.

I don't know what to do myself. I'm deftinely getting the game, but which version in the question? I'm tempted to wait for reviews and get the best version. I like Banjo and Kazooie, but their redesign and Nuts & Bolts fiasco kind of makes the Xbox 360 version more unappealing, but I might get that version since I have a Xbox Live Gold card for three months [and I can extend it later on if I want]. Then again, what Stuff said about the game being built for the PS3 makes me think the PS3 version will be the best. On the other hand, the I wanted to get the Wii and DS version [because I would like a good Sonic racer on the Wii and DS]. Then again knowing Sega, all their versions can turn out to be crap. Hmm, what to do...perhaps I will download the Xbox 360 demo and go from there.

@Hyper Luigi: If you want any chance of playing online with me (which I would like to do), you'll have to get it on PS3. I don't know how much (if at all) that affects your decision, but there ya have it nonetheless.

@Stuff-True, I would like to play online with you and everyone else on my friends list. I think I have decided to get the PS3 version, and possibly the Wii and DS version. Thanks for the help, Stuff. Besides after thinking about it, I much rather play as Shadow and the other Sonic characters [except Amy and Big] than Banjo and Kazooie.

@Hyper Luigi: Good choice. I look forward to playing you, whenever I can scratch up the dough for the game, that is.

So what if it looks like a knockoff of Mario Kart Wii. At least it looks neat since it's Sega characters (and quite a few at that). For the record, Mario Kart Wii rocks.

It does, but I am looking forward to a change. After Mario Karting for almost 2 years, it will be very nice to have a change in the racing world.

I started a thread elsewhere that dealt with this games revw from Official Nintendo Magazine. My apologies:

"Sonic and Sega All Star Racing recieved a 75% from the latest ONM issue. There games rated 70% to 84% are ones that are "entertaining but rough around the edges". Basically, its what we expected, a Mario Kart clone with a few minor sega specific features. The controls are responsive and tight, there is plenty to unlock, a good solo challenge mode....but.....the tracks are forgettable and the multiplayer is flat (not as much action as MK, and frame rate drops slightly).

12 tracks Sonic, Super MB, Samba DA, House of the Dead, Jet Set Radio and Billy Hatcher. No Channel 5 or Fantasy Zone though. No GC controller support. It does just about everything "well" whereas MK Wii does it brilliantly.

Generally, the revw content when read as a whole ENCOURAGES me to get and 75% is a creditable if unspectacular score. The DS version got the same score and generally a similar revw."

I look forward to see what NL think of it

"They say video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock n' roll."

Aviator

ONM's review, being specific, seems a bit strange as Nintendo Power gave Wii's 8 and DS's 6.
