Oh sorry, I forgot to pause for breath (or not since it was typed).

Anyway, I was just saying that videogame wise, Australia is too strict, immigration wise they are great, and the fact that Britain isn't that good with immigration I wish we were like Australia in that way.

Any excuse to get Mortal Kombat off the shelves is worth it for quality control alone. Just sayin', I could scarcely name a more god-awful yet popular series.

The first impression I had of the game, when I saw people crowding around it at the local arcade 'cuz of all that bad blood, was an utter disbelief for how stiff and awkward the character movements and poses were:

Yay, real-ish photographs instead of animation, this is gonna' look sweet ...wait, people in real life don't punch by standing stiffly and extending their arms straight forward in alternation, nor does a jump-kick look anything like that.

Yay, a game made for adults ...oh wait, these look like fights orchestrated by the imaginations of toddlers who make 'pow' noises as they ram action-figures together.

Is the game even that good that it would be worth importing?

It's not out yet, so it's hard to say. It looks pretty stiff and likely won't be much of a serious competition fighter.
But if you're a fan of the MK game, it looks like some serious old school fun and the new character designs are pretty amazing.

I doubt it's import worthy, though I'm pretty interested in it myself. The visuals are the best the series has seen. I'm glad the characters will finally have fully unique move sets instead of sharing all normal moves. I don't know how to feel about the four face buttons being assigned to the four limbs as I don't really know how that'll affect anything in 2D. And I think the X-Ray move will be cool for about two matches before it becomes old hat and just a move that wastes time.

My concerns thankfully are small. I think it will top Trilogy and 4 as my favorite Mortal Kombat, judging by the game play videos online. It looks like it should be great if you played the original back in the day and are nostalgic for Scorpion and the like, but if not, I wonder that it'll stick out on platforms that already have Street Fighter, King of Fighters, BlazBlu, Tekken, and now Marvel.

Whether it's good or bad isn't exactly a reason why it shouldn't be enjoyed by Australians, if they like bad games, then the board shouldn't restrict them of that right. You'll be surprised how many people liked that Sonic '06 game which was an abomination.

Not to mention that some people enjoy Mortal Kombat. Although, I must admit the only reason I am likely to buy it is just fond memories. Plus I always found it better than Street Fighter
Not a real fan of most fighters

The normal moves in Mortal Kombat were always very stiff, but the special moves were very diverse and much easier to pull off (generally) than those of other fighting games, which I think is a big part of the appeal. Everyone can throw Scorpion's spear by pressing back back attack. A lot of people really struggle to do Ryu's upper cut or Zangief's pile driver... or the majority of moves in other games like King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown. Mortal Kombat was accessible... well, the game play was, I mean, haha.

So really the stiffness of the basic moves was disappointing, but it made up for it in other ways, if not enough to be better than Street Fighter or what have you. But the good news is that the new game does look like an improvement in that regard, and (from what I've read) the characters will have distinct normal attacks, unlike the old games where everyone's down + hp was the same exact uppercut, everyone's back + lk was the same sweep, etc.

The series definitely is not the ultra competitive game that most fighting games try to be, but I don't think it deserves such a bad rap as it gets. It has its value as a game. And even if it didn't, it is enjoyed for its silliness: the ridiculous finishing moves, voices, and of course Toasties.

I'm a fan of Mortal Kombat. Regardless of your opinions on the qualtiy of the games, being "bad" in your opinion is hardly a justification for banning the game. I know you were joking, but this is a sore point and an irritating issue that's been caught up in needless politicking.

I've also heard that they're trying to make porn illegal in Australia if the woman's boobs are too small (no, really).

What? No. International forums are great for finding out all the weird misinformation that's out there on your country.

Anyway, I was just saying that videogame wise, Australia is too strict, immigration wise they are great, and the fact that Britain isn't that good with immigration I wish we were like Australia in that way.

It's probably best you don't guess when it comes to things like that. The immigration system here is most definately not great.

And I'm still not sure how you managed to compare immigration to censorship.

Australia is a fantastic place to live. Besides, it is only a matter of time before they institute an R18+ rating for games, they are slowly conceding ground to popular opinion.

I'm a gamer first and foremost, and Australia gets shafted so bad by the industry (Especially on the console end), that I wouldn't stand being there for long periods of time, so living there is completely out of the question in my books. It's also the reason I wouldn't live in Germany, despite my heritage being from there.
You pay more for your games, and you get a lesser library, I'll stay right here in Canada.

Australia would be a sweet place to live for many people. Not me, though. Too darn hot.
