Has anyone played this game? It's an innovative, experimental, two-player only, graphic adventure game. One person is the player (typing in commands, dialogue and moving the character), and the other person controls it. They each take turns that last 30 seconds, though the controller technically gets 60 seconds. But you can end your turn whenever your done. The controller uses control mode, which sort of looks like a graphics and sprite editor, and can manipulate the graphics on the fly or use premade assets, they can put some basic music in it that can be edited quickly, and they can type dialogue for NPCs or narration. Of course there is a practice mode so the controller can play both parts and get used to controlling the game.

There's a fan site where people can connect to each other. You can also play through LAN or just switching back and forth on one computer. On SIDtube, the site where people connect, you can upload your stories in the form of flipbooks. Here's the first game in which I was the player (I'm the skeleton). The guy that was the controller for it who made the story had the awesome idea of doing stories for all of the side characters, so if you look up protobob's other stuff, you can see what happened when people played as the other characters. And here's a game I made where I was the controller. I made the graphics and music in it, though you can't hear the music in the flipbook verison, of course. And I made some mistakes (since sometimes you run out of time or don't know exactly how to react to something the player does), but the more you play, the better you get.

It's currently a "pay what you want" game, with the minimum of $1.75 to cover server and payment processing fees. Here's the official site that people can order it from. But it's worth much more than that. I paid $8, but if I had the money I would have paid the full price from when it came out (which I think was $17 if you didn't preorder). I'm working on a new game, and if anyone else here has the game, we can connect and I'll let you play it. I'd also like to be the player, which I only did that one time, even if its' just a goofy, random game using premade assets. It's just a fun experience, so hopefully someone else is into it.

I watched your entire drama (the one where you were the player, that is), and I'm certainly fascinated by the concept. I used to greatly enjoy text adventures, so it's an appealing idea, although I'd expect it to take a bit of work to set up if you're the controller. I may look into it further when I have more than a few free minutes.

Yes, it can definitely take a lot of preparation if you're the controller and you want to create all your own stuff. That's definitely not for everyone, but I think the designer of Sleep Is Death (Jason Rohrer, it's all by one guy and that kind of amazes me) really tried and did a pretty good job of making it accessible to almost anyone, albeit with a bit of a learning curve. You really don't have to go into detailed creations to make a game. And it's probably fun to just go on random adventures without much of a planned out plot, but I haven't done that yet. He also made a bunch of tutorial Youtube videos for the creator mode. I watched them and could pretty much do anything in creator mode after the basic tutorials, but I wanted to go further and create my own unique experiences and learn all the ins and outs. But for people that like making games in Wario Ware DIY and stuff (like I do), this is like the next closest thing to making your own game, and it's pretty awesome. But just playing the game can be fun for anyone, I think.
