Topic: Silent Hill Homecoming & Other Horror games?

So i'm playing through Shattered Memories now, and know i'll be giving it another playthrough or two once i've completed it. But after that, i'm going to have a horror game itch, so am looking at other SIlent Hill games and would like some feedback. I've already played through Silent Hill 2 (multiple times) and Silent Hill 4 (blargh; had much promise but not such a hot game). I don't have any Sony systems so haven't been able to play 1 or 3 (or the PSP game).

So has anyone played Homecoming? I'd pick it up for the 360, but reviews tend to be mixed. I generally prefer the psychological/thriller stuff over horror-action, but that's not a dealbreaker. I'd like to hear what people thought of it, as well as other non-PS horror-game reccomendations. Thanks!

My friend has Homecoming. He bought it for $12 new and he said it was pretty bad, especially compared with 2 and 3. The low price may justify the purchase though. He never played 4 (but I did, didn't like it) and he played Origins (PSP). He didn't like Origins that much but still thinks Homecoming was worse than it. I still might check Homecoming out someday. Is Shattered Memories worth getting?

As for other horror games: Dead Space, Condemned 2, Eternal Darkness (GameCube game), Dementium (if you have a DS), Resident Evil 5 (although more horror-action), and possibly Bioshock (not true horror but has plenty of psychological themes within it).

FEAR, FEAR2, and Luigi's Mansion.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

I liked Cursed Mountain on the Wii... its less action more tension and quite original in story and location.

Heh, that was my thinking with Homecoming. It's cheap even for a new copy, so even if it's horrible no big loss and at least i can get some Achievement points. =) I'm also thinking about checking out some Fatal Frame games, but i'm not sure which ones are backwards compatable on 360 or how rare they are.

Shattered Memories is awesome. I'm probably only halfway through so far. The game does an excellent job of hitting that tense, psychological horror vibe that made SH2 (and parts of SH4) so excellent. It has some issues, but definitely worth getting if you're into that type of game.

Thanks for the reccomendations, though i have played most on that list. Eternal Darkness was awesome (and maybe its time for a playthrough again). Bioshock was also amazing -- so unexpected to discover how awesome that game was. Condemned 2 i actually didn't like as much as the first. Good game, but i didn't really get into it. Dead Space is definitely on my short list of games to eventually pick up, but RE5 ... ugh. I admittedly only played some of it, but i absolutely loathed it. It is no doubt an excellent game, but not for me -- and i am/was a huge fan of the RE series in general. Just something about 5 made me hate it.

Oh yeah, Cursed Mountain, i was curious about that one too ... and i think it's at a reduced price in a number of stores now, so i'll probably pick that up.

I recently played Penumbra which was quite good. Might be worth checking out.

I also checked the Backwards Compatability list for 360 and it shows Fatal Frame 1 and 2 are on the list.

If you're not sure about Homecoming, consider that it is on sale at Gamestop for $19.99. I just picked up my copy for PS3 at that price. I'm that much of a Silent Hill fan.

Yeah, probably will pick up Homecoming since it's so cheap. I actually enjoy bad games fairly often. As long as i know what to expect, the crappiness of a game can actually entertain me -- most recently that honor belonged to Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, which i picked up for $8. Lots of badness with that game, but it perfectly scratched that sort of B-movie type gamer-itch (and being a huge Bruce Campbell fan, i love me some B movies!).

Also am stalking a few Fatal Frame ebay auctions, but i think i want to check through the giant bins of Xbox1 titles at GameStop first, probably after the Christmas rush settles down.

DEAD SPACE,DEADSPACE,DEADSPACE,DEADSPACE,DEADSPACE,DEADSPACE......
Seriously though, its an incredible game and scary as hell. You can also find it on 360 for less than 20 USD.

Oh yeah, Dead Space has been on my short list of 360 games to get for a while now, but keeps getting sidetracked by other 360 games (most recently Assassin's Creed II). It is about time for my semi-annual game blitz (wherein i end up buying a nice stack of games i've been meaning to get in a single, excessive purchase), so that'll probably go on the pile.

I bought Dead Space recently but haven't worked up enough courage to play it. >.< maybe after I finish Fallout...
The reactions in some of the YouTube vids on Fear and Fear2 are kinda funny. Seems like a freaky game!
