At this point, I don't know if Nintendo will ever actually develop a Metroid game ever again, but as long as its outsourcing the series, I think WayForward would be a good choice, especially if it's another side-scroller.
Update: Silly me. I didn't originally realize the company WayForward was just one word with two capital letters.
My short answer is yes. As for the longer answer, I want WayForward as a 2D Metroid developer if it is on the eShop and if it doesn't have any major impact on the canon. Metroid Prime Hunters is an example of that with a placement in the timeline yet no significant canon impact. WayForward would be a great developer to reignite what made this series awesome early and the eShop would be a great platform to test the Metroid fanbase to gauge how well the series currently sales. In my opinion, a retail Metroid should not happen until they get some sort of idea how it will fare based off of the success of an eShop or Wii U shop release.

I'm sure if enough users comment on this thread saying yes, it will happen!
I agree with this

Wayforward does made a good 2D sidecroller, they made tons of them . I think they did a good job with Double Dragon Neon.I think they would make an awesome 2D metroid.

Why not? Their sprite work is second to none, and their games tend to be high quality (Shantae, Shantae: RR, Mighty Switch Force!, Mighty Flip Champs, & Mighty Milky Way. Heck, even Aliens: Infestation, which was very Metroid-ish, turned out really well).
An official one? No. Nintendo would probably do a better job, at least if all of Wayforward's library is enough evidence (yeah, Shantae rocks, but I wouldn't put it in the same league as Super Metroid, Zero Mission, or Fusion.) They're a great team that delivers solid games, but not stuff on the level as Metroid.
You've got to keep in mind, Metroid has one of the best pedigrees in the industry; I wouldn't let anyone mess with it unless if they could surely deliver a mesmerizing experience. Heck, Other M was a great game, but because it wasn't on the same level as other Metroid games, people hated it.
Best thread ever

Heck, Other M was a great game, but because it wasn't on the same level as other Metroid games, people hated it.
The people who are used to the standard complained about it. Most of the time the silent majority has the say - and lots of good games were widely hated for trying something new. Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion were both hated by many mario fans. It doesnt mean that they're bad games just because those people complained - they didnt complain with NSMB2, and that's not really comparable to those other titles. The worst that can happen is one bad game, the best that can happen is an amazing game that changes the franchise for the better. I'm not saying Wayforward are the ones to do it - but I felt it needed saying in general.
Other M was a good game, Just not a good metroid game.

...um...literally every other thing said about the game on the internet has been complaining about the sameyness in some way. Even guys who I've never seen complain that much about Nintendo complained about this.
You say they outsourced games like the last game before other M wasn't done by nintendo
But sure why not. I'm honestly surprised they haven't went to the eshop to make a new 2D metroid in the first place. And looking at nintendoland the next major metroid game will be another cps or a third person shooter.
WAT!
