Speaking of which how many units have the Sonic series sold so far? According to vgchartz, it sold 105 million units but according to wikipedia, it sold 85 million units. And according to fans, it sold 140 million units.
I like Sonic, but ever since the GameCube the games have taken a massive drop in quality, and the franchise has been dragged through the mud ever since.
Sonic Colors and Generations were good, but with Lost World I conclude that SEGA just doesn't know what a Sonic game should be.
I mean, Sonic just has no identity - is it a side-scroller? A 3D platfomer with multiple characters? Solo Sonica? Does Sonic have a sword? Are there in-game power ups? Is he fast, or slow? Can he boost? Can he spindash
Now about what I said earlier, I don't think Lost World was a bad game in general. Just bad execution - like IGN said.
SEGA is taking chances with Sonic to home in on the perfect balance, and I think they're getting close.
I don't want Sonic to be retired, but the mediocore games have gone on far too long - when will the fans get another game they can truly call a treasure?
If the bad games continue, then, at the most, I think Sonic should be sold- to Nintendo specifically.
should mario retire? <<<< the answer is the same for both

I can name a bunch of other series that should be 'retired' other then Sonic. But it is not going happen because people keep buying them. -_-
let me guess it starts with "Call" and ends with "Duty", right?

The handheld Sonic games are great even Sonic Battle
Nights into Dreams is still the best Sonic Team game.
I don't agree about the lack of rhythm in Sonic (Especially 1/2/CD - Haven't played 3 & Knuckles that much because I have always had not good versions of it).
Generations isn't like that either I am not at the point where I can boost pretty much all the time yet the better i get at it the more enjoyment I get. You have to do it right or you just boost of the edge all the time.

Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.
Yuji Naka is to Sonic like Miyamoto is to Mario. Rodeo the Sky Soldier looks ace I hope it gets released. Even stuff like Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is fun and interesting.

Wow, threads like this just make me laugh so hard milk will come out of my nose.
First mario, and now this? What's next? Should Link retire? Honestly...
Never. I know you weren't being serious, but these things shouldn't be said, or typed, written down, thought of in times of deep despair....
Anyway, I wouldn't miss Sonic, but I never liked Sonic games. If they are selling well, and others like them, it would be a disservice to retire Sonic because of a select group of people who don't care for the games. Don't buy them! Yay!
Nintendo should buy Sega, get them on track. Also, kill off tails...
it'd be overkill(for anyone else) Nintendo would get both Sega and Atlus in one single sweep!(I'd never even think about getting other consoles anymore XD )
