Topic: Should Nintendo go third-party?

I get why people claim that Nintendo should go third party so they can play safe, but they fail to realize that every single product that Nintendo has made has a huge impact and is still making them money. Game Boy is now used to make Chiptunes. People still play NES games with NES. As long as Nintendo is making money on this, why would they need to go third-party?

If at all they go third party, its just gonna be Sony and Microsoft who will just make things that consumers are comfortable with unlike Nintendo. its the inconvenience of their products that will motivate gamers to adapt into the kind of game style and if gamers fail to do that, then games can't go anywhere being unique in terms of how people want to play games

What I mean by inconvenience is how different their products and games are btw.

I don't think they should.

Look what happened to SEGA, huge drop in the quality of their games, IMO. That's all I really care about.

No. All you would have to choose from for consoles would be the Xone or PS4, and those are almost exactly the same thing. No variety at all.

No. Even purely as a fan of gaming as a whole, console gaming would be boring without Wii U (not bad, but certainly BOOOOORING) and iOS would take over handheld gaming unless Sony learned how to market handhelds. These are all bad things and anyone who wants otherwise is an idiot. The end, there is no debate.

No Sony consoles basically means no JRPGs in the west. No thanks. And I'm not sure about Gen 8 yet, but MS played a very vital role in Gen 7. Without them, we'd still be a generation behind in online infrastructure and honestly, the Wii U's online services wouldn't look that bad.

As for Nintendo: No.

they shouldn't go third party but maybe they could make a deal with Sony where Nintendo gets out of console market and Sony gets out of handheld Market, Nintendo puts its franchises on Sony's consoles and Sony put theirs on Nintendo handhelds....

Uhhhhh, that stuff is true, but I don't know what it had to do with my post, to be honest...
I just meant that the Wii U is a lot different than the PS4 and Xone, which have largely the same library of games and very similar underlying tech. Granted, PS4 and Xone do have some differences, and I appreciate having both available as choices (Competition is a good thing here), but they're really very similar at the end of the day (Not that they're necessarily bad or anything), and the Wii U makes for some nice variety in my game room.

I've never thought Nintendo hardware was that great, but they had the amazing games to make you need the hardware. Going third party would really hurt their games. Right now Nintendo getting money from every game sold on their hardware, doesn't matter who made them. Because of that money, they don't have to worry about their own projects making money. They can spend more time on a game, use more people on it, and doesn't matter if the sales won't cover it. They're already bad enough with ignoring low-selling franchises like F-Zero, Star Fox and Metroid, so if every single project had to make a profit, it would get even worse. Quality would suffer, and even the big name IPs would see sales drop.

Going third party is their last resort, and probably won't happen for several generations at least. Even if they stop home consoles due to the failure of the wii u, I think they would still hold on to handhelds because they've shown they can put up numbers despite iphones and droids successes.

I think everyone should go third party. Why do we have to have a specific console to play a specific type of game anymore? There should just be one, universal video game player, and define games by what kind of disk they're printed on, like movies. I don't have to buy a panasonic Blu-Ray player to play panasonic movies, so why do I have to buy a Sony PS to play Sony games? The easiest way to do this would just be for everyone to start making PC games, but we'd still probably have an OS war with exclusivity going one way or another. I think eventually that's just going to be the way it is. No more consoles, because eventually PC hardware will be powerful and cheap enough that you can get something that plays games at a decent quality for under $300. That's not right now though unfortunately, with standards being set more towards the $1,000 and up range for PCs.

no way, 3rd Party isn't Nintendo's Future. Atari and Sega gone from console making ages ago, Microsoft and Sony make their consoles too expensive(in my country)

No, not because of the games but because of the hardware. Nintendo is the only one out of the 3 that does something innovated with their consoles and handheld. They also inspire the other big 2 with their systems in a way. Pretty much the main focus would be bigger, stronger, and prettier gaming experience with traditional controls if it was just Sony and Microsoft.

Because there's a difference between PC and Console. Pc stores so much of data that the speed itself will start lagging where as for consoles, once you start the game, you can play the game smooth with little to no delays.

Secondly Marketing products in PC are much harder than marketing products on consoles. There are countless amounts of PC games that just make very hard to compete like smartphones. Sure with companies like Nintendo, It'll be easy but after seeing their ads on Wii U, I doubt it......

The day Nintendo stops making consoles might as well be the day I stop playing consoles. They are the reason I am a gamer today.

I'm almost inclined to say yes. The only reason at all that I have for buying Nintendo hardware is because I enjoy Nintendo software. And I find that Nintendo software just isn't enough of a reason anymore for me to want to invest in a Nintendo console. I would love to play Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, the new Smash Bros., etc. But I really don't want to own a WiiU. I'd much rather play these games on an Xbone or PS4. Both of which are far better pieces of hardware with superior developer support, features, and online.

With that said, going 3rd party would probably hurt Nintendo as a company, and the quality and quantity of games they produce would drop.
